Default Any positive portrayals of Americans?

I thought I'd found one in Full Metal Panic. But the Marine turned out to be a jarhead and the general episode 13 thing, and the later (I think) Americans in the squad in episode 16 were painfully stupid and abrasive.

Anyway it's a trend I've been noticing. Any exceptions?

For a guy who has been in America all his life I can say that was more than accurate.Family Guy is an example. Some exceptions.Non-exceptions equal people who think that Einstein was the best scientist to people who watched Family Guy after the fourth season.

I've seen a couple for sure... that being they don't say anything about them being American, but ya I think that FMP example would count.

only one I can bring to mind right now is the .Hack manga I'm reading which has an American on the Japanese Server.

Chrno Crusade. Set in America and all the Americans in it actually act.....normal. I know, t'is strange. Their is Rosette Christopher though, that is insane and just destroys everything, but other than that it is quite a serious anime that is amazing.

I loved the way that they portrayed the American president on Read or Die though. That was spot-on accurate. Brilliant.

Well, when you've been militarily occupied by another country in the past you tend to have pretty ambivalent feelings about it. It's nothing personal.

I'd say Black Lagoon, but then everyone in that anime are criminals.

I think Americans are at any time portrayed as good players in sport anime. Contrary, Germans and such are treated more highly in military anime. In other genre, there are various American characters.

Eh, Beck's portrayal of Americans was pretty accurate. Not flattering, but not insulting. Just accurate. Two vastly different cultures, often times the two know nothing about each other except for the stereotypes, so I blame neither. But I will say that if you're planning on portraying americans when all you know about us is the stereotypes then I have to say that you're a poor example of a artist.

I was about to suggest Chrno Crusade. And lol @ the president in the Read or Die "Movie". xD

I think another example would be arguably Metropolis. I still think Metropolis was supposed to be somewhere in America, and the protagonists were Japanese PIs. I know that Duke Red was out of his mind, but you have to admit Rock's devotion to him was amazing. Psychotic, but amazing.

Season 3 or Marmalade Boy had a rather accurate portrayal of Americans (If not Manhattan) that is nothing to signify them as different to anybody else. Except maybe a tad taller.

i thought one of the funniest portrayals of an American was Tanabe from Ping Pong Club. Blond hair blue eyes and B.O. that makes people pass out. lmao.

The one that most clearly stands out in my head is the Wendi character from Death Note. Stereotypical American actress, and pretty James Bondsy. (seriously, who wears a full leather body suit to a stake-out?). She was gorgous, intelligent, blonde, had nice big hat to match sunglasses.

I think this can be seen as both positive and negative portrayals of the American culture. Even tho she was a complete stereotype, she was very smart and probably the only truly intelectual characters in Death Note... but that brings up a whole other issue of the portrayal of women in general esp. in deathnote.which is a completly different topic. so ill leav it at that.

Since I'm kinda watching for it now Fee from PlanetES was American and didn't really have any negative stereotypes and was a generally positive character.

Course it seems the series in general was making a few jabs at America but I hadn't seen that much of it so maybe not.

I'll say it again, they're not potrayals, they're acutate immitations! If we (I'm stuck in New Jersey) are made fun of, we probably deserve it. IDK, but think of how we must appear to other countries! Honestly, It's surprizing that they use Americans as much as they do!

Episode 17 of Excel Saga >_< ,jk. That would be an example of steareotypes to the extreme.

Sarah form Love Hina would be a good example of Americans portrayed in a positive light.

Not really anime, but Roy and Tiffany from the Rival Schools series are mostly positive.

I mean yeah okay he's a football player and she's a big-breasted cheerleader in boxing gloves who throws herself at you regardless of gender, but Tiffany is portrayed as pretty intelligent and Roy is like the Ken to Batsu's Ryu. Aside from being a bit flashier than most of the cast, they're pretty positive characters.

wasn't L in deathnote american? He was a very popular character after his death.

I suppose Near (As much as I wanted him to die a slow and painful death that would make Unit 731 seem tame) was shown in a positive light towards the end.
