Have you ever tried to use voice recognition?

I've been playing around with Vista. Just for the hell of it I am using this built in voice recognition. How does anyone ever get any work done with it? Is there something I'm missing? What the hell is wrong with people? I've spent nearly 1/2 hour trying to use this stupid thing. How could it possibly be faster than typing?

Maybe in the future this stuff will be less stupid. But not now. I know how incredibly Star Trek like this is but it's such a pain that it's not even worth it. I'm a horrible typist but at least I don't make as many mistakes as this thing.

So I guess what I'm saying is does anyone have the intestinal fortitude to actually use this thing?

How could Vista be capable with Voice Recognition? Bill Gates can't even recognize his own currency on how much he makes. I thought it was just barely a Window's XP 2.5 upgrade, although the OSM (I think) is just slow than the original bit OSM. o_O; And of course the future would held success because of the failure attempts from the past, I mean look at 'Nam. And lol@Star Trek.

I don't mind voice recognition. I still remember when I had Rainbow Six the very first one for the Xbox, and it had voice recognition, but the AI were completely doped, and said, "Open, Flash, and Clear". When I simply asked, "Open and Clear on Zulu".

Last year when my bro downloaded the Vista trial version I've used it millions of times...and I totally agree with Manhattan =w= It's useless at the moment but hopefully things like this get more intelligent with the technology in the future =w=~o

Voice recog is bad.

But not as bad as handwriting recog.

I honestly can't see myself using it. When I try my fathers it types the word "Period" instead of inserting the dot. >.> I really have no patience for it.

It's really intended for those who can't see well or have some other disability. The average person can try to use it and all for entertainment or whatever, but it wasn't designed for them.

I tried for an hour before giving up on and deciding it was just another failure of Microsoft that was used as a marketing tool for Vista.

It seems to be too much hassle for what it's worth. However for someone who cannot type very well for disability reasons it's an idea...
I enjoy typing anyway :/

i've tested vista as part of an internship but i have never bothered with that aspect of it. o.O

i do have a bluetooth hands free for my phone. with voice recogn. its hilarious how bad the recognition software can be sometimes. xD

I sure have, and I'm on the same boat as you MP2K. It simply doesn't work. I just really wish I didn't have Vista. Or at least I wish my computer could have died after a newer version of it came out.

Well, I tried it, and really, it's not that bad. Though I had to slug through quite a lot of the "Improve voice recognition" option before I had it at an acceptable ratio of hits to misses. And put up with the occasional "What the HELL are you closing that for?!" moment or two.

But still, come on, voice recognition on my laptop? That's amazing.

I haven't tired it on Hasta la Vista, but I have tired other implementations. And they have all sucked. It just isn't ready yet. I don't know if it ever will be. Not in many years anyways.

You yell at your computer to do simple tasks and type instead of using a mouse and keyboard, and it works (or not) via magic.

I figured as much. I haven't tried it but I don't really like using my voice to communicate with electronics to begin with unless I'm cussing at them. When I was 12 my mom got me a voice password diary thing. 0_o Hated that chunk of plastic, hardly ever recognized me. Lets just face it, technology doesn't listen yet, and even if it ever does I completely believe it'll eventually end up betraying us. I just wonder how well the voice activated vehicles are doing.
