E3: Nintendo's dropped ball

Anyone even remotely interested in gaming has at least heard of E3, the electronic entertainment expo. If you are more than mildly interested, and have not been living in the belly of an octorok for the past few days, you've realized most likely that the convention has been covered by G4, and they have showed the press conferences for the 'big 3" (sony, micreosoft, nintendo) over the past week.

I'm here to discuss them, and the fact that Nintendo COMPLETELY dropped the ball with theirs. Microsoft had a huge showing, including the complete revising of the live system, and announcements that a lot of former PS3 exclusives, like Final Fantasy XIII are gonna also be on the Xbox 360. Sony had a nice software showing, including some titles still coming out on PS2, a large advantage of their conference was the fact that they have 3 systems out simultaneously. Nintendo, seemingly trying I guess to cater to casual gamers, failed to show any huge titles outside of a new Animal Crossing, which, although good, is not the triple A title they need to compete with 360, which, in my opinion, had the best show. comment.

I agree to an extent...As a fan of wii sports I am somewhat interested to see what Wii Sports Resort has to offer...Nintendo does need to appeal to hardcore gamers more though...

Microsoft had a nice balanced showing, they had returning big names ,like and, FF, Gears of War 2, etc..., and they still had stuff for casual gamers like In the Movies, and Lips, plus all the music games, etc...plus, the creator's club looks REALLY interesting... and believe me, I am NOT a Microsoft fan by any means, but they really impressed me, and sony had a good roster of franchises, plus little big planet looks awesome, but what did nintendo show? If you're casual, they rocked, but what about us hardcores? Where's my new Mario, Metroid, Zelda, or ANYTHING!?

No. Resistance is done by Insomniac games, who are a second-party developer for Sony. M.X. either misspoke himself, misheard something, or is huffing things.

so you say Nintendos E3 conference was weak huh...
well i agree. Besides animal crossing and that star wars:Clone wars game everything else was crap... Oh and the first time i ever used the wiimote my first thought was THEY NEED TO MAKE IT MORE SENSITIVE and infact they have done that with that little attachment they released(it also captures wrist turns/movements) so i say thats pretty good... gamewise though... oh man! they blew no one away.!.
microsoft and ps3 for sure had games and new online content covered ;D GOODJOB!!

I don't think there is anything to be excited for lately.After they showed the Wii,PS3,and XBox 360.I've been looking into Little Big Planet{They are adorable in a manly sense}.Halo Combat Wars looks a bit lacking.

As I had stated on the day of the Nintendo's E3 conference in my blog their's sucked big time. I was looking at the little Cooking Guide... then i checked it some more and saw it'll cost about $34 dollars.... wtf? I ain't making nobody else spend that much money on that little game.
The rest of the games really are blah... i could care less about the Sports Resort game... what do i need more sports for??

I was hoping for a new star fox, oh well. Its sad when I have all 3 current gen systems and am still playing ps2 more than all 3 combined

I usually look forward to what Nintendo has to say but what they did at E3 was just awful. And you know what? I am not surprised. Nintendo really has been sucking at E3 for the past two years so I did not have my hopes up.

At E3, Shigeru Miyamoto said that Nintendo was not directing their presentations towards "core" gamers anymore. They are pushing towards casual gamers, which is not really a bad thing. There are some people who will buy anything and everything that Nintendo has their name on, as seen in the comic below.


Nintendo has been making lots of money with casual games than they have with the more serious games (then again, they haven't making a lot of those lately), so the more mainstream games are not really a big priority when they can make a lot of money with games like Trauma Center and Cooking Mama and not have to take the time to develop it.

But, at the same time, there are lots of people who are big, loyal fans of the Nintendo franchise who want to see the newest Mario, Zelda or Star Fox game. Some could care less about the latest cooking simulation. We have been waiting and waiting for the latest, greatest game that Nintendo can give us and what do we get? Animal Crossing!!

Interesting enough, when the ps3 came out, the ps2 outsold both that and the 360. Also, there is another big announcement from Bungie about a Halo project being worked on by Peter Jackson. (LotR movies) but it was pulled from the show at the last minute.

I also hate how E3 has been downsized, it just isn't as exciting anymore, they need to reform it, or just abolish it altogether and have each company hold their own individual show.

E3 isn't doing very well because it's an industry/press-only show. PAX and a few other shows open to the fans have been growing in importance a lot as of late.
