TALES OF ALACIA

Alacia (A-LAH-See-ah) was home to many kingdoms in the past, but none were so grand as the kingdom of Farren, who’s great empire reaches to almost all corners of the Alacia. Once ruled by the great king Vyaff, it is now in chaos.

Vyaff has died without an heir, and the 4 great houses seek control of the throne. This has lead to an economic depression, for while once all ports were Farren ports, and were open to trade, now trade has become localized, and resources are becoming sparse. Many have fallen into poverty, but many have propheted from illegal deals with other places.

But something far more sinister is going on. In one of the few uncharted places of Alacia, a dark army gathers. A dark army under control of Dirge, a dark creature so filled with hate it is barely a man. It plans it’s strike on the world, waiting; for when Farren has become weak with inner turmoil, the greatest threat of all will appear.

Dirge’s army of wicked creatures (whom he controls with prestarian magick) attacks the four houses. Though his army is now too weak to strike near the capitols, he ravages the coasts with a fury unmatched. Now, the heads of the four houses have convened in an emergency council to discuss what to do about the mysterious raiders. It is decided that a team of four investigators, one from each house, will go to these coastal towns and villages and gather information before reporting back to the council.(This is where the story starts)

HOUSES: There are four great houses to which you can take allegiance, The Regalos, The Davisporte, The Valkarus and The Borren. Yes, there can be renegades, but not too many.

Regalos: The Regalos are a family primarily of Elves, but other races inhabit it as well. They live in a hilly region called Bravin with hot summers and mild winters, much like Spain today. It is bordered by the Ctulic Sea on all sides. It’s capitol city is Eval, a costal metropolis. The social climate of the land they control is less tense than the rest of the Houses, due to their incredible navy. It is ruled by Duke Navaela Regalos , A man of elegant power and an hautiness. He is cruel when need be, but he is also just. He is not a PC.

Davisporte: The Davisporte are an entirely human family, who live in a snowy, mountainous country known as Volk. It snows year round and there is little distinction between the seasons. It is dangerous there for people who are unaccustomed to the weather due to the intense cold that often reaches well below zero during the day. It’s capitol city is Brum, a large city that is protected by a great wall of ice. It is ruled by The Matriarch Elizabeth Davisporte. She is a loved woman, who most believe (in her country) truly deserves the crown. She is kind and fair, though she is not weak; she had to fight her way to the seat of the Matriarch. She is not a PC. Volk has a very good mobile infantry and their Knights are stuff of legend. They are bordered on 3 sides by the Frosted Sea.

The Valkarus: The Valkarus (Val-KAIR-us) Are a mixed house, with Dwarves, Elves, Half-Elves, Humans, and Preistarians alike inhabiting it. They live in a country called Targaria (Tar-GAR-eeyah). Targaria is not so cold as Volk, but not so warm as Bravin. It is somewhere in the middle, with warm summers, and snowy winters. They are bordered by Volk, the Ctulic Sea and Dorn. Its capitol city is Hammerburg, a city known for being home of the old royal palace. They are ruled by the Prestarian Dai’ir Vestrantos, a harsh and brutal ruler with very little lenience towards most things. He is not a PC.

The Borren: The Borren are a purely dwarven family. They live in the country Dorn, which is essentially a mountain range. The Dwarves built cities upon these mountains, utilizing their topography to make cities of near impenetrability. It is cold, and it snows often, but it still pales in comparison to Volk. It is bordered by Targaria, The Ctulic sea and The Frosted Sea. Its capitol city is Glowein. Which is built in layers. It is ruled by Goter Horenfel, a dwarf who has lived for over 300 man-years. He wishes to be king of Alacia because there hasn’t been dwarven king since the Dwarven Age, 3,000 years ago.

RACES: There are five races you can be, Dwarf, Elf, Half-Elf, Humans and Prestarians.

PRESTARIANS: Prestarians (Prey-yis-TAR-yins) are a magic race. They look like humans, but are usually taller. Prestarians excell in elemental magic (Earth, Water, Air and Fire) and Influence (Mind control) but can adapt to all magic. They are commonly distrusted by other races due to their ability to tap your mind. They age 1 year for every 15 human years.

Elves: Elves are a magic race. They look like humans, but have long, pointed ears, gaunt and almond shaped eyes and pale skin. They excell in healing magic. They cannot adapt to other magics. They are held in a very high regard to other races, and are commonly seen as a people of great wisdome. They are immortal in that they do not age past 40, however they can be killed in battle like anyone else.

Humans: Humans are not a magic race. They are the second oldest race, after the prestarians. They are very skilled in fighting, and are also the most wide-spread race. They are often highly skilled in combat.

Dwarves: Dwarves are not a magic race. They are very honor-bound, and always keep their word. Dwarves are renound for their metal-craft ability. They are very skilled in melee combat. Dwarves age 1 year for every 3 human years. They are not likely to be seen in areas of great heat.

DIRGE: I will write what Dirge is doing, maybe a paragraph at the beginning of each of my posts. In the event of a battle between Dirge and another character, I will play as Dirge.

Physical description: Dirge stands at almost seven feet tall, and is very gaunt and thin. His skin is a pasty white, and his eyes are black as pitch. He wears a long cloak that does not move with the wind.
Personality: Dirge is cruel and ruthless, with his mind set on only one thing: Domination

Physical Description: Jerdan has prematurely gray hair, and piercing blue eyes, but his face is handsome, though scarred. He is tall, though not as tall as Dirge. He has a beard, which he keeps in braids. He is missing his pinky and ring finger on his right hand, something he lost in a fight with a badger when he was eight.
Background/Other Info: Jerdan has had a keen sense of smell ever since he was a boy, and equally sharp eyes. He was given up to the military when he was eleven, and became a ranger when he was 17. At age 21, he became a “Matriarch’s Man”, meaning he need not bow to any authority except for Matriarch Elizabeth. He will be one of the investigators.

Personality: Helpful at times, Cheerful, likes to think to herself and is usually found by herself, deep in thought.
Background/Other Info: Tsunami witnessed her parents death and seeked out the killer. She soon killed him at the age of 15 and has traveled to the city of Alacia. She has almost used every single weapon but her sword, the Mizuku, which is pretty much her lifesource. She has joined no house but travels on her own, helping anyone in need.

Personality: The most salient part of his personality is his paranoia. He constantly feels threatened by everything around him and is constantly high strung. Even the slightest noise will make him jump and twitch uncontrollably. He believes all people are out to exploit him and take what is his. He is emotionally guarded and is incapable of meaningful emotional activity. When talking he gets very nervous and speaks both rapidly and with a heavy stutter.
Strangely, while he cannot read the intentions of others towards him and thus interprets it as malice, he has an almost idiot savant ability to determine interpersonal motivations of others. He can, for example, determine that a husband is cheating on his wife by merely looking at him talk to her. This doesn’t appear to be an sort of traditional logic but rather a bizarre higher sense.
He has no personal ambition and merely tries to survive the perceived attempts at his life. Absolutely lacking in a spine, he is easily walked on by someone with more force of character then himself and rarely resists those who try to exploit him. He functionally has a lower IQ than his abilities would lead one to suspect (around 100) however most people believe him to be a genius.
He constantly has a wary look about him, his eyes darting every which way but he affects a polite, if incoherent, style of speech. When dealing with a threat, perceived or actual, he NEVER attacks head on and uses under-handed methods, simply because he believes attacking from the front will expose his back to the many other threats that he’s not immediately dealing with.
Has a habit of talking to himself. In fact, when he feels split about something he will have an entire conversation, out loud, about the merits and faults of any given position. This is not to be confused with an actual split personality as he maintains his sense of self throughout the process, however, his sense of self is fluid enough that he can do this without feeling the least bit odd.
He is asexual (i.e. he feels no sexual desire towards anything.)
Background/Other Info: When Helel was a kid he was often beaten and picked on by other children because of his girlish appearance and delicate frame. He was always meek and unable to stick up for himself and was even beaten and exploited by girls. His father never knew about this because he was forced to keep silent due to threats about tearing up a prized locket – a momento from his mother who died giving birth to him.
He became more and more submissive and insular. Eventually, his problems became so bad that he could no longer distinguish between those he could trust and those he couldn’t and he fell into a state of paranoia and insomnia. He would stay awake at night staring endlessly at a wall listening to the footsteps of people passing his street in the night. It was around this time that he developed a heavy stutter and his other speech impediments. He gained a habit of twitching at any stimuli and as well as delving into kleptomania.
His disorders were so obvious and disconcerting that children began to mock him as being possessed by a devil. This notion was picked up by the adults. When the King Vyaff died and the economy took a turn for the worst, the adults blamed Helel, believing him to be the host of a cruel misfortune. Eventually his father was forced to abandon him and the village he lived him drove him away.
He never recovered his mother’s locket.
Driven from his home he did what most vagabounds do and went to the city. Being only 11 years of age he took the most menial jobs upon arriving in Hammerburg but could never hold them because his kleptomania caused him to steal from his employers and his paranoia prevented him from working well with others who he always believed to be thinking ill of him and trying to cheat him.
Eventually Helel turned to a life of petty theft just to survive. In a strange twist, his spastic nature actually aided him. People believed him to be deranged but harmless and couldn’t tell the difference between his normally paranoia and when he was tense because he was attempting to consciously commit an act of theft (which is itself distinct from his kleptomania which is an unconscious action).
To cope with his paranoia and attempt to mitigate the perceived malice of others towards him he began using his abilities of perception to the benefit of others. One day, when he was in a shop to steal something he saw another man walk in and instantly knew he had walked in with the intent to rob. He warned the shopkeeper and when the man tried to swipe something the shopkeeper was ready. Ironically, Helel stole two oranges and a toothpick from the store (the toothpick wasn’t intentional).
Helel lived like this for some years until he was thirteen when he was finally caught and imprisoned. He spent three years in jail and acted as a rat for the guards, being able to sense escape attempts before they started and having no loyalty towards others since he believed they had no loyalty in him. Eventually, his bizarre character caught the attention of state sponsored psycho-scientists who wanted to study him. His five year sentence was commuted into ten days of repeated flogging and he was brought in as a subject for psychological evaluation. They became fascinated in his bizarre behavior but it was his savant tendencies that got him noticed. The scientist spread rumors of his selective brilliance to the Court of Dai’ir and Helel was eventually brought in to serve as a sort of court jester/brain tank. One moment he was laughed at by the nobles for his insanity, and the next moment asked his opinion on who was double-dealing with whom. Several attempts were made on his life by those he outted however, his paranoia kept him from being poisoned or cornered as he always assumed he was under attack. Eventually, for Helel’s own safety and to monopolize his ability, he was brought directly under Dai’ir and acts as his close advisor.

Background/Other Info: Tria's life has been nothing special in Valkarus. She was often left out of activities wherever she was because of the prejudice against her race. She did not mind it, however, because she had her share of friends. Today, she is grown up without a scarring and quite ordinary past. Her soul is very accepting of others, though she has a very cunning and devious side when required. He height stands at about 5'8", but she is still mistaken as a human.
She dislikes fighting but will take part in a challenge, and loves to use her magical abilities.

Personality: Mia grew up on her own, not always having the best life in the cold wards of Davisporte. She'd fend for herself most of the time, sleeping under the stars on all but the coldest nights. She has never left her home nation, but she has always wondered about how the world is like beyond Davisporte's borders.
She is usually rather cheerful around others, and enjoys making new friends. However, she can have quite a temper if someone makes her mad.

I have to reject all of you (except for luzifer), for right now, and that's my fault. I'm not used to RPing with you guys, only my old group, so I didn't post the rules.

General reasons for rejection:

Japanese names. This is a Germanic/Europa style fantasy, and as such names like Kisumi Utena are out of place and awkward.

Pictures for descriptions. No.

Almost no one read the mechanics, it seems. I need 3 investigators, one for each great house, and a special character who comes in later in the story. If someone wants to be something other than an investigator, P.M. me with the character.

Background: Marlencia was found abandond in front of the castle. she was 4 years old and afraid of everything, though some people were against it and rather saw her brought to valkarus. But elizabeth believed there was a reason why marlencia was left in brum rather than valkarus and she remaind at the castle. Through the years marlencia learned to trust people but she did not show any intrest in anyone. when the other childeren played she prefered to read. Boys were boring on party's and she never joined the girls in there make-up and gigglefests. Until she met Jerdan he smiled at her when she walked into the library and she followed him out and kept following him through the castle. None is sure why the was drawn to him but elizabeth was happy and apointed her to him als his companion and servant.
