How bad is Gatorade for you?

Hatorade, as i preffer it named, keeps me fresh and pumping full of hate!
It happens to be my favourite replacement for water, albeit more expensive. It's the only thing that can keep me from dropping from exhaustion by evening, in the summer. Everyone keeps telling me off it. Even in the movie "Idiocracy", it is viewed as a bad replacement for water.
You guys tell me where i'm wrong and what this stuff exactly does.

Carbs and sugars are redundant. Gatorade contains no carbs that aren't Sugar.

It's filled full of electrolytes, which is a fancy science word for salt. Salt is unnecessary unless you are doing a great deal of sweating on a empty stomach for long periods of time (+4 hours). If you aren't running a marathon, stick with fruit juice. It has all the sugars you need, and usually vitamins too. Also, it tastes less like kool-aid from hell.

I don't drink Gatorate. But, if you freeze it it makes a nice Icy Pole...
But, to hydrate myself, I drink Water. It's way better than Gatorate by
far. If i'm not in the mood for boring-tasting water.. I squeeze a little bit
of an orange or a lemon into it. Not that it changes the taste that much but
it's still good ^^

I do indeed drink Gatorade. At one point it used to give me slight headaches. Never found out what that was all about. But I have a friend that claims that since it has electrolyts it relieve you of headaches. I had some yesterday, only with a combination of a bottle of water because I want to be absolutely sure I'm hydrated while running. I like the taste however.

And Lol at MP2K comment about it tasting like Kool-Aid from hell. Ha ha.

I drink Gatorade when I am playing soccer during the spring and I enjoy it better than water only because I have to run around for so long (you have to be hydrated if you are going to run up and down a football field!). When I am doing Judo or some other martial art, I prefer water. I am not working out nearly as much and I am inside with air conditioning. Water is just better for me in this situation.

Anyway, Gatorade is only good for you if you are actually working out and doing a lot of it. Sports drinks are good in the fact that they are able to hydrate you and reenergize you better than water because they have electrolytes (ionized sodium, potassium and chloride; not simply "salt",) which you lose when you exercise and that water is not able to give back (unless you put the correct proportions of sodium, potassium and chloride in the water itself which will work just as well as Gatorade ).

If you are not doing anything at all, however, all of the different sugars and electrolytes in the drink are going to be bad for you if you are drinking the whole bottle and having more during the week. Having a Gatorade every once in a while is okay but like someone said before, you are better off having a regular bottle of fruit juice or soda because the sugars in them are about the same if not better and they most likely have less sodium in it. Gatorade does have vitamins and potassium in it but you are better having a piece of fruit .

Unless you are working out for hours on end in some sort of extreme stamina training , this sort of stuff is not good for you. The body can't do anything meaningful with most of the carbs so it ends up becoming fat, you really don't need the salt, and you can get more and better vitamins from eating a fruit.

Gatorade is pretty much useless unless you're running a marathon, even when you play sport you don't need that much sugar and you're not losing enough sodium and potassium to need them to be replaced.

True, Gatorade is bad. I've heard Powerade is better. But I'd stick with water, but Gatorade helps me a bit more.

If Gatorade made my sweat change colors like the commercials try to get you to believe, then I'd drink it more. But it's not very good, I just buy it when it's on sale.

Well, it's sugar-water. Of course it'll damage your teeth.

Also, the difference is that Gatorade is made by one company, and Powerade by another. Hell, you can make your own sports drinks at home. Google it.

Don't listen to whatever people say about it anyway including the advertisements and what is written on the bottle, it is still probably a load of sugar-filled crap.

Remember 'Ribena'? "Low Sugared Blackcurrant Juice Drink, Kind to Your Teeth". Turned out to be 29% sugar. Rumours have it that McDonalds milkshakes are made partially of pig fat, although they say they are not, who is to believe? No one knows.

Never rely on drinks and whether they are good or bad for you, they have still been meddled with and filled with salts, colouring, sugar, and whichever other stroke causing crap they can get their hands on in order for it to taste 'good'.

Final statement, I recommend water.

I know its not healthy but I'd rather drink Gatorade than water. Water is so plain and has no taste while Gatorade has that taste that makes me actually enjoy it. I always take Gatorade to cheer practice instead of water. I'm not saying "Gatorade is better than water in everyway." Its just my opinion that I like Gatorade better than water.

I drink almost nothing but Gatorade and energy drinks because I'm constantly doing stuff inside and out, so I don't want to dehydrate myself but I also don't want to slow down so I do the energy drink thing. I'm probably destroying my body, especially when you factor in my nicotine habit. But it's a lot better than water in my opinion.

Oh yes, I sometimes trade Gatorade for Vitamin Water. Like that's a hit in my book.

Anyway, my shitorade tasted awfull. I put salt and sugar in equal ammounts, which was.. a lot! That sucked, so i'm going to go to sleep now.

Drinking water is even better! Gatorade is good, just don't drink it every hour of each day..that's crazy. Just keep yourself hydrated everyday with water with the occasional Gatorade (if available). i don't see the harm in Gatorade but the sugar causes tooth decay...so don't gargle with it!..lol

I've tried Gatorade and I drink lots of fizzy drink, and that is probably why I'm sleepy all the time.
