I finally thought I should stop lurking and actually post my work.
I think I'll start off with what I think are my best pieces. (A few were done by using some tutorials from this site)
And my most recent one:

wow your work is nice.
the first one and the jigglypuff are awesome.
i prefer jigglypuff though nice color as in the background,
but the render needs a little work, i would say...
my opinion..
Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to use it later one.
Here's a signature I created before I read your advice, however.
The extract was by Serated. I followed a tutorial on DA called "Pixelstretch tutorial." There's something about it I don't like, though.

Phycicmind your work is really good! I like how you used the Patchwork tool on your last purple one. I like using that ^^ Wow Serated is good as hell at Extracting. Mine end up okay... Maybe your could try adding more contrast?
I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I made an adjustment with the lighting.

It's good, but what I mean is to make the girl stand out. Not blend her in. So try making the backround darker, and make the girl lighter.
So something more like this then?
I can't make the girl any brighter, or else the details such as her mouth will disappear.

That's exactly! Yes! Well done ^^
Here's a simpler one.
Extract by MaruDashi.

I like your works and your new one ^^
But [on your new one] maybe add some yellow, orange
and just lower the blue...
Well done on your siggys!
Yeah I liked the newest blue one, too! Whoa.. Maru's good at extracting. Mine always end up lumpy and bumpy and uneven..
I added some orange.
I think it looks better.

Blending is my advice. I believe that on the Sakura signature, the reason you felt something was missing is because the stock stands on top of the signature, it doesnt really combine with it. Try out some blending and you will improve.
So, something like this...?

What Serated probably meant was about foreground. Or probably its because that the stock doesn't work with the theme. Seeing that the girl is wearing a Sundress, maybe go for a garden, or beach theme for the background.
(also, filters like that is really hard to mix without using a technology looking extract/stock as the focus)
(and another thing, good blending is like your Pikachu signature. In terms of color and theme of course. Pikachu is ELECTRIFYING! and YELLOW)
(AND another thing to add, next time, choose an extract with some action going on)
This is the best I could do.
I did add a bit more to the Haruhi signature.

I still think you are misunderstanding what the others are trying to say Psychicmind.
Look at Sakura, she's just there. Just standing there and doing something that we don't even know what.
What they are trying to say is let the focus BECOME ONE with the background.
For example, that Rob tag that you made, Rob is part of the background if you look at it.
Also that Samus one is another example that you yourself have made in which she became part of the background. Not the best example albeit, however an example otherwise.
Try different methods, and don't hesitate to try something new.
Mess with gradients, color balance, smuding tools, C4Ds.
You have an ENTIRE ARSENAL of weapons in which you can use to help you in the battlefield of Signature Creation. Use them well, and be creative.
The best I could do was make the whole signature foggy, including some of the extract.

Fogging up the signature isn't going to make things better, but good attempt. =\
I know it's frustrating, but keep trying different methods.
For example, just for the heck of it, try some smudging techniques.
I know the point of the signature is to have that techno feel to it, but again, try some smudging.
DON'T GIVE UP. =D

I had to hide much of the original background to do this, but I hope it still works.

Well, you've got the right idea now.
But it's really empty now.
You know what, just try on another signature, because right now, we're just butchering it.
The third version was perhaps the best out of it all.
At least you finally know what we mean when we say to blend it in.
It wasn't meant to be so complex, anyway. I also think the third one is the best, I was just trying what everyone was suggesting. Like I said before, I followed a tutorial to get the original image.
