Have you ever had a Desptop mate? For example a virtual cat or dog?

I used to have a virtual cat - it did things like walk around the screen, sleep & purr. XD

Look at the bottom of the screenshot - he spilled milk & now he is drinking it XD

Back in the days they were big, they used to be full of viruses and whatnot. I don't know if they still are today, but be careful.

Again, I urge you people to scan these for viruses before you run them. These sorts of things are infamous for being hosts to unfathomable numbers of viruses and spyware.

I forget what happened to him though.
You could make him say things, tell jokes, or just be lazy on the corner of your screen.

bf used to had one, a white sheep... he said one day a black one came and killed the white one and then the computer got a lot of viruses and spywares...

That was Bonzi Buddy [wikipedia], which is a confirmed case of malware (mostly adware, but some say it's spyware as well).

I've never seen the appeal, really. Like Eris said, they're basically malware wrapped up in a distractingly shiny overcoat.

I've seen a couple that checked out okay, but they were mostly fanmade stuff.

ah we had a purple monkey a green parrot and felix the cat , we never got a single virus but thats becuase we had so many firewalls and scanners and oh god the time it took to download something was tripled by all the avg scanning

I use to have fish tank aquarium screen savers...but like someone said, years ago they were full of viruses...that was back when I had dial-up...(shivers at the thought of dial-up)

Also I had a wolf desktop mate. Though it gave me a horid amout of viruses, I suggest to know what you are doing on how to scan for viruses...AVG FREE ver. 8(best one out there, my dad builds computers and recommeds it) or don't get them at all .__.
