    Default Historys Biggest Genius?

Who do you think is or was the biggest genius to have ever existed? He/She can be from any time-period, from the past or the present day. Can be anyone that you think deserves the title "Historys Bigges Genius".

I am going to say 19th centurys Benjamin Barker. XD
His talents as a barber helped pose him and keep him in the shadows as he took revenge on the people whom ruined his life, and also invented an awesome chair to dispose of the bodies of the people that he killed through a shoot in the ground to the kiln where they were roasted and then turned to pies.

That is just genius classic evil mass murder style that helped him go down in history as one of Londons most successful and popular anti-heroes. Haha.

Everyone knows Al Gore invented the internets.

For a scientific genius, I'd say Tesla, Euler, Newton or Lagrange (mainly because you can't throw a decapitated yuppie without hitting some part of mathematics or physics he's gotten something named after him in) .
For a creative genius, I'd say Bach or da Vinci.

Albert Einstein?? 0.0 I liked his ideas and quotes, esp. the one where he says, "Imagination is more important than knowledge," or something like that!! 0_o; He wasn't so good himself, and was even terrible at math, but later on, turned out to be one of the world's great geniuses.

And I guess, Bruce Lee. The man not only had a genius mind, but also revolutionized the martial arts and brought dignity to so many Chinese people. And trust me, this guy was not overrated!! xD

Oh, Hi-deeki, imagine... your kind not eating raw fish! ^_^

Tesla is the first one that comes to mind. Almost all the others that I had heard about I have more recently discovered that they in reality had stolen the works of others extensively- including Albert Einstein.

Apparently E=MC^2 was not conceived by Einstein, but by a scientist working for the Nazis who had derived the same formula before Einstein published his papers. The 'theft' of credit was left alone due to World War II, countries outside Germany wanted a piece of anti-nazi propaganda and it was ripe for the taking.

And Thomas Edison actually pisses me off now, he ranks right up there in terms of evil alongside Bill Gates and Adolph Hitler.

Apparently Edison actually did very little inventing on his own, he was more like Bill Gates in that he knew how to take an idea and market it for a fortune. Thus, almost all of the inventions attributed to Edison were in reality produced by nameless workers in his facility, and some of his were actually created by Tesla- who soon grew weary of Edison stealing his ideas and went to build his own research lab.

I don't have a lot of information on Newton or Alexander Grahm Bell, though it's possible they too had borrowed ideas.

Actually there is another one that comes to mind, that not many people know about.

Glen H Curtiss, a bicycle mechanic and motorcycle enthusiast turned aviator. He actually holds US Pilots License #1, not the Wright Brothers, and his designs inspired modern craft far more than the works of the Wright Brothers.

Indeed, Curtiss had flown publicly several months before the Wright Brothers, many local residents witnessed his test flights in local fields and the experiments at Keuka Lake. I've personally seen the sites of his tests, and a local museum documents his work including flyable reproductions of several of his aircraft.

Here at the place where our love reached it's climax, I leave behind a broken heart torn to pieces by fate.

    Merry Christmas.

Leonardo DiVinci takes the cake I think, due to his expertise in a wide variety of fields, as well as being greatly ahead of this time.

Newton for Calculus and Newtonian physics.

Einstein for Special and General Relativity, which kind of revolutionized our understanding of the universe.

    Also, whoever invented buffalo sauce.

The Nazi's weren't in full force until the 1930s-1940s. Einstein published his paper in 1905, two to three decades earlier. I doubt if Einstein outright stole someone's idea without citation, he would be able to avoid +20 years of scrutiny from the scientific world, especially from scientists better known and more prominent than him at the time. Although it's possible E=mc^2 may not have been originally derived by Einstein, it is only a minute and simplified piece of a much greater publication. There is no reason to discredit him for his other findings in relativity and the photoelectric effect.

Probably did at some point, but there's nothing wrong with building off of someone's work so long as you give credit.

Most inventors and scientists aren't famous merely for discovering something, but for being able to present it to the world so that it can be efficiently utilized, understood, and integrated it into society. Also, these scientists/inventors will usually give credit where credit is due in their work; however, textbooks and history will often disregard mentioning these names. For example, L'Hopital specifically thanks Bernoulli for helping him in his work in differential calculus; however, Bernoulli will rarely recieve credit for "L'Hopital's Rule" in a school textbook.

Lester William Polsfuss, better known as Les Paul, pioneer of the solid-body electric guitar. All that nice rock music we listen to today? It wouldn't sound the same without his contributions. Besides, the Gibson Les Paul is probably THE most well known, valuable, and historic of electric guitars.

Stephen Hawking. Albert Einstein. Isaac Newton. Shinichiro Watanabe. Keiko Nobumoto.

They all tie for the spot.

On this day of days, most epic and prideful, you were born 15 whole American years ago!
Through the odds and by doing the impossible, you beat out hundreds of thousands of siblings in the great sperm race for the coveted egg.
    Probably via hax.
    Regardless! You won!
So remember, whenever someone picks on you or calls you weak or small.
Just remind them that you beat out a few hundred thousand other wimps.

And the grand prize was not dying!

    No.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E%3DMC2#History

    Relevant bit:
While Einstein was the first to have correctly deduced the mass–energy equivalence formula, he was not the first to have related energy with mass. But nearly all previous authors thought that the energy which contributes to mass comes only from electromagnetic fields.
Also, as MetalKnight pointed out, Einstein published this formula in 1905, so unless Einstein had a time machine and and didn't mind a paradox, he couldn't have possibly stolen from the Nazis, who were created (with a different name) in 1919. I'm sorry the Internets, or whoever, has lied to you.

And Thomas Edison actually pisses me off now, he ranks right up there in terms of evil alongside Bill Gates and Adolph Hitler.

The difference is that Bill Gate never claimed to invent DOS. He bought the source from someone, and managed to win the right contract at the right time. The market didn't want a large number of Operating Systems to write programs for. They wanted one or two. And that's what the market got.

Edison, however, was an Inventor, albeit a notoriously shoddy one. But the most important thing he ever invented wasn't the light bulb, but the Research Lab. His claiming ownership over over inventions made in his lab is no different from what you find today. Yeah, it sucks that he never gave anyone any credit, but people did learn from that.

If I were to start naming a top 5 of Animu Directors, he might make it on the bottom of the list. He isn't horrible, but he's basically notable for taking extremely boring story ideas and making them somewhat worth watching. But he can't hold a candle to Hideaki Anno or Katsuhiro Otomo. Or even Mamoru Oshii. In fact, he's only in the top five if I don't start typing more things into Wikipedia, because I can't remember their stupid Moonspeak names.

Those people are called Electrical engineers. They make these crazy electronic ideas actually happen. Inventors just dream things up, engineers make dreams a reality.

As for my top brain, I choose Isaac Azimov. He invented nothing, but many at-that-time theoretical machines in his writings we use today or are one really clear look into a future that we may not be far from.

A theorist thinks up ideas that can't be immediately put into use. An inventor is someone who applies an idea to reality. Electrical Engineering is a profession. Electrical Engineers can be inventors and/or theorists, but most are not. An inventor/electrical engineer made the first TV (for example) and those involved since are just the poor bastards trying to make a TV with better resolution, or whatever.

    No one has mentioned Feynman?

Personally I'll go with Tezuka Osamu and Dostoevsky.
