Abuse of power?

What kind of power abuse worries, angers, or concerns you the most?
Mine is popularity abuse. Using a mass amount of people for personal or evil gain I see as the worst of them. The worst things in history have been done with this.

Others may include, Physical, cyber ( internet hacking and such. ), political, social status, ect....

What do you think?

Power will always get abused. It attracts sociopaths like crap attracts flies. That is why power ALWAYS needs to be distributed over a large group of independent people.

The problem is that the two groups are virtually indistinguishable until they actually get a hold of the power.

Abuse of power by way of ignorance or apathy infuriates and concerns me. Doesn't matter what kind, but if you don't care or don't know about what you hold power over, then you have no business wielding that power.

Well said Sanosuke! I agree with you, that if you don't know, or care then you have no reason to have that power.
I can start pointing at politicians, but it would take to long.

They say power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutly, but that is true in most but not all. Like Manhattan_Project_2000 said George Washington is a great example, but did you know he was offered a kingship of some sort after the revolution but he turned it down. "Did I fight king George the 3rd to become king George the first?" I can not remember where I heard that from.
GW proves that some can not only use power in a non corrupt way but also turn down absolute power.

Abuse of power in any sort is just flat out irritating online and in reality. I've been to a site before where someone hired a new admin -later fired- who'd ban people simply because of a disagreement between opinions on a MOVIE.

One can determine how a man will use power through the method he obtains it. Granted, during a time of hype/emotions that can be hard to determine since the press tends to take a critical eye off the government.


People who are most responsible with power do not seek it in the first place.

1. After the American Revolution, George Washington opted to retire to Mount Vernon. It was the Constitutional Convention (not a purged group of minority supporters) that appointed and persuaded him to take the presidency. He took the position because the United States needed him to lead, not because he wanted it.

2. The same could be said for Cincinnatus. The Senate ran to him with an appointment to dictatorship. He did not ask for absolute power. He was pulled off the farm by their will, and through his sense of duty he accepted it through the duration the Senate purposed.

3. Hitler, however, was not called to power in the same way. The Beer Hall Putsch coup was a clear sign he was willing to do anything to obtain power. His cabinet drafted the Enabling Act, allowing him to rule by decree. It was pretty clear he wanted power for his own agenda.

Teachers in schools. They abuse their power all the time. Well, you know how teachers aren't allowed to personally hate a student?? Well, my Geometry teacher hates several of my classmates. And sometimes a teacher sends a person out for actually "doing their work," how's that for an abuse of power?? 0.0

I hate political abuse of power. A great example is the issues surrounding the "Burmese" (I refuse to acknowledge them as Myanmar) junta and their "shadiness". People think being able to have "some" power in politics makes them a big deal, when in fact, it's just as easy to have it brought down if people really wanted to.

Also, I hate it when the city decides to make your lives miserable through their ability to do whatever they want. For example, constantly making new bridges that has no purpose.......I'm seriously tired of detours.

I know that the government does tax gas, but that's actually legitimate if it goes to road funding. I'm not sure what else is done to raise gas prices.

I think it's the control of foreign countries who are the ones who decide how much oil they're exporting, as well as how much it is worth. It's obvious that oil is becoming scarce, and pretty soon, there won't be anymore. Although there are alternatives to how we'll be able to fuel our gas tanks, we'd also have to sacrifice a lot from the environment..and it's a risk that I'm not willing to take. Gas nowadays isn't as reliable as it was before, but as far as I'm concerned, there's still enough to distribute and people are just becoming greedy.

You know something about the Bush administration always annoyed me........ do you know what it is? They never talked with enemy countries.....NOTHING will ever get done that way. You know why we are in Iraq? Because of oil ( At least I think so), and do believe that the not talking with enemy countries as a cover up for not getting oil from Iran and certain other ones because certain people in America would not profit from that.

Still doesn't solve the problem. You can only determine how the person obtains the power after the fact. Not to mention sociopaths have no problem dissembling to appear an entirely different sort of person.

But you do make a point considering that we have a lot of oil in Alaska that we're not even letting anyone invest in.

I'd only support digging oil out of Alaska if legislation requiring New Cars get at least 25 m.p.g was attached. And ideally some prevision throwing fees at people who drive anything that gets less then 20 m.p.g. per mile over some set amount.

Nice, but I don't think that will happen within then next couple years, because our government is on the stupid pills, and greedy pills. I hope something like that or better will happen.
