I know they are something that most of the American population (girls included) either like or don't mind (and I am aware that not all men like them, merely the vast majority). There are a lot of such things in society like this. For example, most of Americans like handcuffs too. o.o Something just awesome about being restrained. What about high heels? A lot of women feel sexier in them and a lot of men think women look sexier in them.

I guess I'm just doing a case study in what kinds of things in society that have become sexual symbols? A SYMBOL is defined as something that represents an idea or thing completely unassociated with the object. Now, you may protest that under the definition lesbians don't count, but I say they do. Nothing sexual about sexual orientation. I think...

(further evidence of this can be noted if you think about WHY you entered this thread)

Anyway, what can you think of? It's odd the way a society can take a cultural resource and add deeper meanings.

Whipped cream. I see it all the time when people refer to 'fun time in bed'. It actually makes it kinda hard to eat ice cream sundaes without feeling utterly naucious.

Hm... I've got one. Since when were whips taken as a sexual symbol? I mean, I understand (to as much as my "innocent" little brain can without experience) the whole S&M thing. But didn't whips start out as a weapon? In fact, since when were weapons sexual at all? Seriously, when did that start? Chains, whips, gags, heck, knifes even! I'm trying to make this PG-13, but it's a little tricky. It's not that I disagree at all with BDSM (I'm not going to go into detail about my reasons), I just find it odd that if we start discussing whips or chains in my class, everyone assumes that it's something sexual.

That didn't make sense at all, huh?

I would re-phase that slightly. It's not that anything can be added to sex to make it more fun, but that sex can be added to anything to make it more fun. For example, a sex act featuring a 1040 form is no more fun then just plain old sex, but a sexy tax accountancy session? Much more fun then normal tax accountancy.
