Pen Pals are fun!

So, I just started (email) correspondence with 6 different Japanese and Russian pen pals, and it's a blast!

I correct their English for them, and they correct my Japanese/Russian for me. Pics come every once in a while, and I got to see a view from Fuji-san yesterday

One of em lied on the site I used to find em and instead of the 24 she said she was, she's 15 and calls me Tony-Senpai, LOL. It's like having that younger sister I always wanted (family is 3 boys, my pops, and my poor stepmom)


Anyone had fun experiences with pen pals they'd like to share?

My Cousin used to have Penpals. She used yo really enjoy reading and writing though. Yeah, she said it was good to talk to people over the world. I myself have not had one, I just use the internet for that kind of thing.

I had a pen pal back in grade 3. I sent her letters and I talked to her. She lived in Quebec, Canada. So when I went around Canada with my family, we stopped by and visited her. She lives on a dairy farm and so we did what all farm kids do. Play with the animals and went picked apples at the orchards. It was soo much fun to finally meet my pen pal in person. I should send her more letters though. ^^

I had a pen pal when I was younger. Can't really remember anything about him or where he was from but I remember having one. My sister calls my bf a pen pal since she's not really brave or bold enough to actually except that we are in a relationship. *okay that info was irrelevent* Anywho, so yeah, can't really remember much but I can remember that it was much fun being someone's pen pal!! ^^

I don't really consider someone you email a pen pal. You don't even use a pen. I talk to people in Japan on myspace all the time. I think a pen pal is someone you send letters to. Part of the fun of a pen pal is the anticipation of getting a letter in the mail. Email is just too fast.

I've never really had a pen-pal, but since I joined AF, I have a few pen-pal buddies. ^^ They are all very nice people and I enjoy talking to them. But I am concerned with my niece entering chat rooms, and I have no idea who she's talking to sometimes.

I had a pen-pal, actually, still do, but we don't write to each other as much as we used to. He lives in another town in my land. I've a few friends abroad whom I e-mail and chat with. I guess you can't really consider them pen-pals in the right meaning of the word, but still... we write to each other, right? ^^;

A couple years ago I started a pen pal thing (like a real one) with someone from Chile, and we're still going. His name is Eduardo, and he's pretty damn awesome. We correct each other's language skills, and simply have friendly conversations. When I first started, my Spanish wasn't all too hot, but after talking to him, my writing skills at least boosted. I really think having a pen pal is a great way to learn a language and about culture too. Some of the things I learned from him were things I don't think I could learn anywhere else.

My mum has had a pen pal in Italy since she was about 12 - she's now 52 and they still speak and they see each other about once a year either in Italy or over here. Its so cool

I have had multiple penpals who we just stopped writing each other. Then I got an online penpal and its still kinda going. Its awesome tho- and since email's so efficient it's much easier to keep in contact.

But really, I prefer snail mails than e-mails. It's fun seeing new strange handwritings. Okay, I know it's weird but I like different handwritings. So artistic. <3 Yeah, I've penpals from Brazil, Portugal, Germany, USA, Malaysia and Japan. It's fun to write letters. And I don't have to reply instantly because they'd understand that mails are slow, heh...

I had a penpal when I was in elementary school. I forgot how we found each other, but it was really cool getting a letter from out of state! I wish I still had her letter, I'm sure I do but I just don't remember where I put it..

Well...in a way that's using some really oblong logic, aren't all of us that use this site, in a manner, "pen pals" ?? Not too many of use ever meet each other in person, but we talk on all subjects and have the capability to have more private conversations through PM and stuff.

Would we thus be a "pen group"??

I used to have a pen pal. We use to write to each other once a month or so but now we don't anymore ==
Also I had a pen pal assignment that we had to do in 3rd grade.We didn't get to choose the people though My sub-teacher sent it to the actual person >.<

Wooo PenPals were fun to have back in the day =P I used to have one that lived within the same country but a few provinces over. She was two years older than me and a CLAMP fangirl. Though the penpal thing stopped when she wasn't safe in her home and couldn't write me back. Haven't talked to her since... Grade 8 I think.
