I sort of hate how one word can stand of like 3 different things in English. Like the word "Ma" can easily be understood as either "Mom" or horse, depending how your tone is.

That sounds similar to Chinese. I always didn't like how they had tones in their language. Cantonese really scares me with their seven tones. Goodness, I would never be able those all straight.

And Cameron, I'm not smart, I just like linguistics :3. If Ookami were here, she could tell us about Maltese XD!

I personally have to self translate everything my parents say. It's hard. They'd shout "Take water" (Or something like that. I dunno. I told you, I translate everything myself) at me a lot when I was younger. Took me a bit to figure out that it meant "Take a bath."

As for knowing many languages, it's a great asset when you need to insult someone. Just do it in five languages and they'll shut up.

For me, I speak Mandarin, it was fluent before, but not now cuz once I learned English and some other languages, my Chinese got worser..

Hey! I'm almost exactly the same! I speak Mandarin, English, a dash of French, a pinch of Spanish, and a speck of Japanese. (Neko, neko!)

I'm only fluent in English. However, I've been taking Japanese for 4 years in high school, so I know quite a bit of it. I took Spanish for 8 years but we only went over the exact same stuff every year, so I only know a little bit of it. I'm attempting to learn some Chinese on the side. What Pengin said. It's very similar to Thai. From what I know, the main differences are in the the way you raise or lower your voice as you pronounce the words.

Well, I dunno about Laos, but when you speak Thai the meaning of your words used depends on how you raise or lower your voice. Laos is very similar to Thai, but they have a different accent, but many words are NOT similar to Thai. Just like 'glass' in Swedish means 'Ice-cream' in English. My mom speaks Laos and sometimes Thai-persons (or whatever) have a hard time understanding what she is saying.
