    Default Japanese dictionaries.

    Hello everyone!
I'm looking for good online japanese dictionaries so I'd like you to tell me
if you know some. Usually I work with the JDICserver, it's the
best dictionary I've found, but it's somehow limited.
I want to have many sites to check and compare definitions, please.

http://www.alc.co.jp/ - doesn't have every word, but it does have some colloquial terms not found in other places.

http://dic.yahoo.co.jp/ is a japanese to japanese dictionary but it's useful for looking up from hiragana to kanji, which you can then paste in other dictionaries.

I use WWWJDIC (no, it doesn't have anything to do with Jesus) for all my work. Has dictionary lookup by kanji, kana, or romaji, a primitive text translator, an example database, and a graphical means of looking up kanji by radical.

I use the same one. It is wonderful, and a lot of colleges even recommend their students use it.

i just tried using WWWJDIC...its pretty good...but i always judge dictionaries by how many example sentences it gives. i mean what's the point of knowing a word if you don't know how to use it? and if you judge dictionaries in this way, although WWWJDIC also has examples sentences, Eijirou (http://www.alc.co.jp/index.html as already given by Yorushijima) has many many more and is by far the clear winner.

the only reason i think a lot of colleges recommend WWWJDIC instead of Eijirou is because WWWJDIC is an english website. Beginners of Japanese will definitely dislike having to navigate through a page packed full of kanji. But I see that you, Maroko have a lyrics level 2, so you should have no problems with Eijirou.

but as you have already pointed out yourself, it's best to have many dictionaries at your disposal as reference. so use both and compare :-)

I know WWWJDIC and alc.co.jp are very good dictionaries but i want to know if maybe there are more like them or better.
    Anyway, thanks for the replies.

    I usually stick with http://www.df.lth.se/cgi-bin/j-e/jis/dict

Though I will use WWWJDIC from time to time.

I like the program JWPce better than WWWJDIC because it's offline, and much faster/easier to use. It doesn't have sentences, though(I only look up words I seen in real sentences, so I already know how they're being used)
