Let's say that 99% of humans were born blind, and the scientific community denied the possibility of sight (or even the existence of light all together).

Would you, being one of 60 million people who could see, make any effort to prove to the world that vision exists?

Well, considering 60 million people in the world could see, I cant see how it would be hard to prove the existence of sight. You wouldnt have to prove all 99% of the blind people, just a large handful of persuasive and influential individuals that can pass on the information to the masses.

I can. Those who could see would most likely be treated like crazies.

Think about never having been able to feel anything that you touched, and then think of how someone else would explain such sensation to you. Not only would it be nearly impossible to comprehend, but you still would have valid reason to doubt it.

Hell, I'm having trouble just trying to come up with a proper analogy for you...

Imagine if someone said to you that they could sense this "energy" which modern science doesn't even acknowledge. Would you really say "let's hear about it?" or would you say "Yeah yeah, I've heard that before."

To have an additional fundamental sense that very few people have is more radical than being abducted by aliens.

I think such a conspiracy would be quite unrealistic. It would probably be an epic failure in which lead the the further discrimination of those who claim to have sight.

I would not try to prove of sight. As soon as I proved there is sight then people will feel miserable. Because they CAN'T see and sight is good. Suicide rate will go up drastically.

Now, if hypothetically speaking this blindness was somehow a boon, I could see that. However, since sight is better than no sight, even with the slightly enhanced senses, the sighted people would have a distinct advantage with ranged weaponry such as the trusty rock and it's hi-tech cousin, the rock attached to a long rope.

It's the year 2008. Chances are, about 80% of those people who have sight would be either too lazy or too dumb to formulate a plan to use vision to conquer others.

And as for the topic, no I don't think I'd even try to prove that vision exists. I'd just communicate more with those who could see instead of wasting my time screaming at a blind man "But it's real! I swear!"

The assumption that those scientists born without sight would deny the existence of light altogether is too implausible for me to formulate a good answer. People who taste numbers or see music actually exist, and it is a medically accepted condition. Why would it be any different?

Well i would try to tell humanity about it but it would be hard to prove it to them.Why?Because probably higher officials would take me in and hide the truth from the people since it would as said really make them sad and they would show their dissatisfaction by either rioting doing suicide or any other thing.It would be similar as it is with aliens.You get kidnapped and tell the people about it they say yeah sure and i am an iguana.
They would simply shun you and you would be considered and alien.

Survival of the fittest and evoloution would find a way around blindness therefore most of the blind people would have developed other senses or evolved a stronger sense of touch to make up for their weakness. they may have got echo location or even slightly psychic to make up for it. This diverges from the point of this thread though. The only way to prove to them that sight "exists" would be to gather other see'ers (don't know any other way to put it) and then you would have back up to your argument. On the other hand the blind could just think you were a bunch of nut jobs or religious fanatics but meh thats the way it goes.....

Let's take a really good look at the situation if 99% of Earth's human population were blind.
Computers, television, driving, building houses, reading the paper, using basic kitchen utensils...etc. humans would be incapable of doing any of these things. And since it is near impossible to prove that 99% of the population is blind, then that means these 99% would believe that the rest of the world is unable to do these things either.
It is then, that I would accumulate the world's "insightful" masses and start an evil organizatoin to take over the world. Why bother trying to prove to blind people that you can see, if you can just let themselves believe you are blind and take advantage of their disability?
Taking over the world isn't hard if you've got such a "handicap".
The people who can still see are still capable to doing many of our daily routines. Shoot someone with a gun, and they won't know what hit 'em.

If I remember I think Earth is over-populated with at least 6.5 billion people trying to make a living on it.
So if 99% of a planet with a population of 6.5 billion people well...let's just say that it would take a true creative and realist (only a handful) to prove that light actually exists, yet in aw ay the world is already blinded by many things enough as it is...

It wouldn't be hard to prove it. If the majority of the population was blind then they would have an elite sense of awareness, wouldn't be hard to prove at all. The only thing would be proving you weren't insane.

Yeah, but 60 million? Id understand maybe just 600 people or even 6000 people being considered crazy, but I feel 60 million is an amount that couldnt be ignored. Isnt that close to the poplulation of the US? (give or take a mill) How can you tell an entire nation, regardless of their position in the world, that they're incorrect?..... Hm, I think I know where this is going. Is this about speading or pushing truth or ideas to other countries or even the rest of the world? Or did I just overthink this and branch out to something bigger? o.O

What do you mean, taste numbers and see music?

People who claim to hear voices are commonly just accused of being crazy. This would be a very similar situation.
