I'm in my Ethical Management class. The topic is do you thing racism is prevalent in todays world. Tell me what you think.

I think that racism will never end. But I learned to suck it up and just ignore them(that's what some people on AF told me.) I have more significant things to pay my time, energy and attention to. That's great that you have a topic on racism, then you'll discuss how it is today. Now, I don't hate racists, because that would be hypocritical.

It's WAY overated.
The black people see racism in everything nowdays, they are abusing it.
People are taking it too seriously anyway, they are tryng (don't know has it been done already) to ban words like "Attractive and Successful African American" in the US. It's crazy.

I really don't like racism or being racist. I really think it's pointless in life. Some people just can't deal with it.

Like this one fight in my middle school. This black girl thought a white girl called her a bad word and made a huge big deal about it calling her racist. (Which she really didn't, it's just the accent she has.)

Well, I suppose I would be an example of the prevalence of racism in the modern world but only in this way:

Absolutely!
Racism manifests in every community to some extent. Some more than others, and all walks of life are the target. It's honestly the most tragic thing to me, but it's the real world. Today we had a "Discussion With Diversity" forum, where four students of minority in my school spoke about what it was like being a minority in my community. What I thought was a little upsetting, was they only had two African American students, and two of Hispanic descent. There are lots of other minorities in our school that weren't covered, like the Asian groups, the Native Americans, and the Indian communities in Brunswick. It kind of upset me more than anything...

Honestly, I live my life color blind. I see people for who they are, but being raised in a very prejudice household, it took me a long time to get to where I'm at now.

It is a real issue but it is the fault of are own creation you see.
It is a carry over side effect from slavery.
It can be erased one day, the only reason it is around is because of ignorance/hate.

It's not just white/black black/white racism, it's ALL kinds of racism that are a problem. SO many people have problems with other types of people. There are all kinds of reasons. Ex: Vietnam vets suffer from PTSS(D) and have lifelong hatred of the Vietnamese and Asians in general. Often times their children are also raised on that hatred. It's tragic

I want to have a diverse family, that will be my way of teaching my children to accept each other for who they are!

Yes i know it is not all to blame on slavery, but it would be so little without it that this topic would not be needed. We have come a long way in the past 100 years but what if slavery never was real? Then we would have gotten to this point a long time ago.

Instead of blaming different parties, or people, or events, we should accept them as a terribly unfortunate part of our world's history, and move on from there.

Unfortunately, people are raised that way.
There are few exceptions to this rule of course.
My family is very racially prejudice, but two of my cousins married Jamaican men. I love my cousins, and their Milato(sp?) babies!

I don't know. I do believe that this world will forever have racial prejudices, but luckily, at least in the US, justice is becoming more sympathetic to race related crimes, and there is a smack down on the people that do those kinds of things. At least in Maine there is! I'm not sure about everywhere else

Well, you see, people aren't born being racist, or born knowing or being this or that. They are influenced and encouraged that way. Just like how nobody's born evil, they're twisted and made that way throughout their whole lives. I think that people now are trying to tolerate others, but that's just a mask covering their true feelings for that particular race. I watched, "Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story," and it had Jason Scoot Lee portray Lee, in which he said that whites and blacks aren't the enemies, we've been so close for so long. It's not that they hate us Chinese, it's just that they don't understand us and they're afraid of us(but the chinese at that time were afraid that the much bigger Caucasians and African Americans would beat them up because chinese aren't aloud to teach kung-fu to, "outsiders."). He also said that once they see more of their culture and the more they understand it, then they won't be afraid anymore because it has become apart of them. It's the beauty of his culture he was trying to let everyone see. Honestly, I think revealing more about your culture and let people understand it more, so it becomes apart of them is the best way to beat racism.

Black person in a shiny car will get pulled over more then a white person in most neighborhoods. Why? Racial profiling. I'm not sure whether it is always racist or not, but in many cases it is.

A) Yeah, it's totally racist for a group of people to have their own cultural identify. Why aren't you complaining about how CMT hates Yankees as evidenced by the fact that no one on that network has been north of the Mason-Dixon line?
B) Speaking of CMT... yeah. White people have that, Weather Channel, Oxygen, CNN, the Country Music Awards, the Tonys, etcetera. Black people can have BET and a couple awards shows.

Although Racism has certianly gone down a lot over the years, which is good, their will always be the few people out their that will not stop.

Maybe one day people will just say "Hey dude, being Racist is old now man, lets stop."

I don't think racism exists, not in the same sense as in the past. I think people are using the racist card as an excuse nowadays.

What I'm seeing nowadays is reverse racism, especially in America, you see reverse racism everywhere!

Over here in the UK, we recently had a Fire Fighters expoditions for Black British, Asians, and various other people from different ethnic backgrounds to have a chance to see what it is about so that they may enter the Fire Fighting public services in this country... No White Caucasions were aloud.

Now that was so un-racist that it was racist to the people living here. XD
I didn't really mind though, I joined the public services course in College in the hope of becoming a Police Officer in the future, but still it was quite unfair to the British citizens who wish to become Fire Fighters.

Well, there are plenty of people with prejudices towards other races, many are unfounded, and come from a false sense of superiority. I see Australia as a pretty racist sort of country. Much more than I ever saw in America...

However, I agree that minority groups keep racism running strong by ALWAYS playing the race card. African Americans can make the "black pages" but white people are racist because of slavery that none of us are even old enough to remember? It's the same with the Aboriginals in Australia, alot of them use the past to get free benefits and special treatment now, and god forbid you tell them to go get a job....

I also think that stereotypes generally exist for a reason. They are developed because the same type of people do the same types of things over and over. I expect certain things from members of certain groups....I'm not racist, I don't see another race as inferior, I see that certain races generally can be expected to act a certain way and it may cause me to be less inclined to talk to them.

Well i think racism will never end.Simple reason is some things from the past and the existence of fanatical groups and gangs of all black,white and yellow.They just keep pushing things and all of that pulls other people in it.
How well here is an example a group of white racists attack a black boy and beat him up.That boy grows up hating white people.Thinks why don't i beat them up now?Gathers a gang of same thinkers and beats a white boy or many of them.Even worse they gather all and make a massive gunfight and pull everyone else around them in it.A black mans daughter is shoot by accident in the fight.He is enraged and wants to kill the white man for it(it doesn't matter if he did shoot her or not).He plans revenge he tries to do it but the white police catch him and beat him up.Then the gang gets revenge on the police.It just goes in circles.
So as i said as long as there are some people with hate new ones will be made.
I personally have nothing against white,yellow or black people.In fact i like them all and would really like to meet and talk to a black person since there aren't many here.I find them to be cool and good people like anyone else.I do not look at skin i look at personality.I my self am white.
