A document was made in 2003 by three young Americans Jason Russell, Bobby Bailey and Laren Poole on African children about how they're abducted at night, killed, and live in harsh conditions from war. Simple question...

Would you help them support African children?

i watched the video black is for sunday, i was honestly touched. the story was so sad and i am now helping the invisible children organiztion. so i am supporting them, and i hope other do as well. the war in uganda needs to end and the displaced need to go home at last. the war has been going on for 23 years and its time to end it once and for all.

No, I feel we should first take care of the children in our own countries before worrying about someone else's. Same reason it sickens me when people adopt kids from other countries; Why are our own abused, orphaned children less worthy of a loving, prosperous home?

That is why over here in the U.K we have Comic Releif every two years, to send over money, bottles of water, new clean toilet cubicles and other things like that. We also raise over millions of pounds to help them which people send in to charity.

our children are for the most part better than the children in uganda. yes we have children who have no homes and are orphaned, but can you really say the children in the displacment camps are better off than the ones here? i think yes, we need to help american child too, but i think we need to help the children of uganda first and help them, as well as our own.

I would personally like world Poverty to stop, but yes, their are our own countries to worry about too that are having their own troubles, just as Princess Ai Stated.

Will our world improve? Get Worse? Or just stay the same?
But I still want to enjoy life as best I possibly can.

i think more people need to care about this. we don't have children who are suffering as bad as the displaced in uganda.

What about the children here? What about the kids who parents beat them and they're taken away into a foster home? Where even WORSE can happen to them? I had a friend in a foster home and he got it way worse than he did when he was with his parents. Sure, he got fed more than before, and he went to a nicer school and wore nicer clothes.

But all that served was to cover up the nicer bruises he was getting.


Seriously, I know it's awesome to care about other countries, and how rich people do it all the time to show their inferior to us poor folk...

But who cares, when we have things to worry AT HOME. Kids, teens, homeless men and women, some displaced by home forclosure, some lost thier jobs and never recovered, some were in the system as a kid and just never got out.

Why not help them instead of whining about people far away?

Stop stepping over our own problems, stop stepping over the people in THIS country, and start doing something.

You care about homeless in your area? Do what I did when I worked at a sandwich shop, make sandwiches for them, give them expired chips, give them free food when they stop by asking to wash the windows, give them your change if you see them asking for a hand out. A few quarters and dimes aren't going to kill you.

Oh I should mention, I was homeless when I was working at the sandwich shop. And I still gave people my tip money and free sandwiches. Because even though I had a job, I couldn't want for anything. I had a pretty good place to sleep and I had food.

If there was some way of fixing it, I would be all for it. But pouring money into the area isn't going to do any good. It's very similar to trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube, or the water back into the faucet. Most of it is going to go to waste, and the end of the day there will be just as much suffering tomorrow as there was yesterday.

I disagree.

Those people in africa are not my friends or family.

It costs money to help those people in Africa and I already don't have to much. To spend my little money on helping those people in Africa who I don't even know seems a little odd to me.

I lack reasons.

Besides..

Billions are send to Africa for help and it doesn't get any better out there.

I sometimes get people at the door asking if I want to help poor kids in Africa. I just answer like this:

"No!" *Closes door*

Sometimes they ring the bell again and say:

"Why not? They need help. How would you think it would be if they were you?"

I reply:
"Go home! And I'm not them and I think it would suck. So what. Life sucks. Get over with it.. You can't get me to help those kids or people! So stop coming to my house!"

The quote itself is utterly meaningless, since it is not an argument but a statement. So I figured the origin of the quote might give it some credence, which obviously wasn't the case.

Some of the cities have huge glitsening skyscrapers and busy streets filled BMWs and Mercedes. But of course, there are poverty filled streets with homeless galore. But you know what? So do all the other countries around the world.

While on the subject, ever notice how all imagery of those programs consist more or less entirely of face-shots of children, and never once make an argument that isn't based on pity for the poor, starving children? It's really effective, until you realize the clever design of these films. -Always- faceshots, -always- clinking piano music. They want to make you feel, not think. It's hypocritical to say you want to do good, and then sit around manipulating people out of their money.

The US government could step in and help out a little with the world hunger issue, don't you think? Considering the US has enough food to end world hunger, and is all kept in storage until rot. The problem isn't one of hunger, it's one of economics. No matter how much food you pour into these regions, people will still be hungry tomorrow. They need infrastructure, free trade; that sort of thing.

You know I wouldn't. I got to be honest. a lot of those charities do little or nothing. Some even worsen the problem. If I could some how help that continent get some government reforms and stuff and things that would really help. I probably would, but sending a $1 a day or whatever doesn't seem to do anything in my mind. Besides the world is broken. There are pletnly of things that may be much more important to someone that they can contribute to.

Homeless < abduction + genocide

Let me say, I can see you feel very strongly about this and have had personal experience and so I empathize. But really, when you get right down to it, being kidnapped then forced into war is a little (just a tiny bit) more serious than our homeless problem. Don't get me wrong, our homeless problem is still a problem and a serious one at that, but the situation is a bit more dire in Africa. And don't interpret that into, "Our kids mean nothing compared to those kids in Africa!" I'm just comparing the two, both are serious though.

Semi-related story: I gave a homeless man $5 outside the Fox Theater when I went to see a Tool concert. When I came out, I could swear it was the same man, intoxicated and begging for more change. I didn't really know because I only caught a glimpse of him on my way out. I just wondered to myself, "He couldn't have gotten that drunk from five dollars."

Truthfully, I hardly give anything to charity anymore because I never profit off it. I don't even get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside myself. And there isn't a homeless person I personally know that doesn't eventually spend their charity money for booze.
