I know, this is going to sound like i'm a moron but... I was going to start watching gundam because I used to watch it on Cartoon Network and was wondering where i should start? Is there different sections like in dragonball?

Hmmm. A lot of Gundam series are their own alternate timeline. So you can start with almost any of them, but I suggest you start with the Universal Century Gundam.

You can start with any timeline, but if you pick a timeline watch the Gundam Series that fall in that timeline in the order I've posted.
