Best gundam series to start with.

So I've always wanted to give gundam a shot but I have no clue where would be a good place to start. Are all the series linked together or are all/most of them stand alone?

Start with Mobile Suit Gundam aka First Gundam aka Gundam 0079

Afterwards see Zeta Gundam, Gundam ZZ, Char's Counter Attack, Gundam F91, Victory Gundam, ...

I would say watch all of the Gundam series in chronological order.

Watch them in chronological order, say for example, you'd watch the Harry Potter movies in order instead of 3rd movie then first...

To actually enjoy Gundam, look at the original story, then look at how the characters are developed, mainly Amuro and Char.. Then there are newer characters added in, like Camille Bidan and all..

Of course there are side stories, like 08th MS Team, 0080: War in the Pocket (watch those with the 0079 Gundam) and 0083: Stardust Memory (watch this before Z). Then after Char's Counterattack, you should then continue in timeline with F91.

But then there's the other centuries..

08th MS Team

I'd say THAT's the best gundam. I found Gundam Wing ruined after I watched 08th MS Team.

08th MS has a "real" feeling to it. It was believable.
When I tried to watch Wing after it - I found myself looking for the deeper story line that 08th MS had.

i started with gundam seed stargazer ova series with strike noir gundam

i liked Gundam Wing, this was the first gundam i watched. i then watched in order upwards. i personaly have not seen the older gundams but i plan to. < this makes it hard to Recommend a platform for you to start.
