Default Microsoft & Yahoo vs Google?

"Microsoft has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo with an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion, seeking to join forces against Google in what would be the biggest Internet deal since the Time Warner-AOL merger in 2001.
The surprise offer of $31 per share, made late Thursday and announced Friday, seizes on Yahoo’s weakness while Microsoft tries to muscle up in a high-stakes battle with Google likely to define the technology landscape for years to come."
    Quote: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22947626?gt1=10856

Wow. Who would have thought Yahoo would finally go down? The article is right. This purchase could make or break Microsoft against Google, but it's so inconvenient for Yahoo Mail users either way. If Google buys it, Microsoft won't stand a chance in the internet market. Google will practically own the internet itself. It's only competition would be AOL.

If Microsoft buys Yahoo, will they really benifit from it? Yahoo users will disperse from MSN, and some users will go to Google or AOL. Are they really making a wise investment?

What do you think? Got any other facts?

This is a very dangerous and scary deal!
I hope it brings disaster to both, I actually hope the deal never happens!

I believe this is merely a matter of market share when it comes to online advertizing. Microsoft will still be a huge part in the development of the internet because of IE. But I honestly do not use IE unless I really have to.

Truth is, I use both yahoo and google; they often give different results ~ to cover for missed entries. Even if this pushes through or not, I do not think the end users will feel much difference.

If the deal does go through, which it probably will, Yahoo and Microsoft combined will make more of a threat, but they still will have nothing on Google as a search engine. Microsoft really just can't compete.

I think Microsoft just picked Yahoo because they were an easy target. O_o'

Actually when you compare Yahoo and Google with each other, the only thing that matters between them is their use as a search engine. Google is far superior than Yahoo when it comes to being an internet search engine. Other than that, Google has nothing on Yahoo.

The problem for Yahoo is that the internet search engine part is the most crucial aspect of surviving as an internet company.

I think the government should get involved and file an anti-trust lawsuit against both companies. If this were to happen the future will be ruined, the next generation of Internet users will suffer greatly and so are we.
This is one of the most dangerous things to happen to the Internet since the release of Microsoft Interweb Exploder.

I'm impressed, you didn't even use the juvenile "M$" abbreviation this time.

I'm sort of confused as to what Yahoo does worth caring about anymore. Google already ate Yahoo's lunch, and doesn't Microsoft already do most all of the things Yahoo does? So they just really want the brand name, I guess?

I agree with you, other than the brand name and better search engine, there's nothing for Microsoft to gain from Yahoo!

All this will do to the internet is get rid of hotmail... and then I'll have to get another E-Mail address -_-.

Google will continue to be the best search engine IMO. Nothing will ever change that.

Actually Yahoo and MSN have already been interlinked. I actually don't see them getting rid of Yahoo or forcing MSN on anyone considering how much more market share Yahoo has than MSN. And actually, its Google who is slowly becoming a threat, because when someone becomes this powerful in one area, dollar signs start to distract.

The only thing is, right now governments are so anti-Microsoft that any arguments that they make to keep Google from becoming too huge backfires. I love Google, but I am afraid that one day they will find a way to start alienating people.

Theres no way AOL gains anything from this since AOL can't seem to pull themselves out of the hole their in. If Time Warner does what they plan and break things up, you could see someone buying AOL in the near future too.

And Google would not try for, nor do they need Yahoo, and I think the Microsoft deal will go through, but it'll take one hell of a plan for them to make a dent in Google.

Thats just my opinion based on things I've read around the internet as well as my own thoughts mixed in.

Google main power is Googleplex (their main base). it's work unlike any other office. So i dont think the coalition is work smothly.

But its intresting if they fighting for a search engine since Yahoo is one of several company wich refuse to use brain and larry formula long before Google was born. Well its also too bad for microsoft since Brain and larry made it in a facility wich almost dominated by them.

But still i dont think they can submit Google that easily

Doubtful they will care. Even combined, they are so pathetically tiny compared to Google it's ridiculous (16% market share vs. Google's 65%)

Microsoft try to stop Google's growing power, it doesnt have a qualified searching system like Google's ,Live search is just money invested failure. so If Microsoft could buy Yahoo ,will try to fight google in the same sector.I think Microsoft are going to fail If he could buy Yahoo, too. Because Google=internet for most of computer users. I like google.

I recently did a report on Google. I found out that it was formed by two college students who did not really want to start their own business. They tried to sell their search engine system to Yahoo, but they declined saying that being better than 80% of all search engines out there was good enough for them.

    Idiots.

Are you sure? I think Microsoft + Yahoo! will come up at much more than just 16%.

Statistics disagree. Though, they could be liberal lies.

Its not that Yahoo is that small, but that Google kicked their butt so easily. Google is the best search engine.

And with the Yahoo buying Google thing when it first started out, remember that a lot of people start companies just to sell them to someone bigger in the hopes of becoming rich for very little work. Yahoo probably thought the same thing, and so turned down the offer.

And also I'd like to point to the fact Google is becoming more like a company than an independent source. Wehn they failed with Google Video, they did what anyone else would do and bought someone who was successful, You Tube, and went with it.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I remember something about Google trying to find more ways to put ads in their search engine. But don't think I'm trying to say Microsoft is so great or something. I love Google, I think its great and I hope they never do anything stupid, but money changes people and it has already changed them, but whether it is for good or bad will be seen as the years pass.

Well, we also have to look at this when we anylize the situation:

Google has, assumably, the highest stock value among any internet company. The only company out there that could even come close to comparing would have to be MySpace. I'm not sure if they even count.

Careful... the last thing we want to do here is flare up a political debate and turn this into another bush-bashing thread. lol
