Because theirs other less self-destructive ways to deal with what you are trying to accomplish with cutting. It's just stupid.

But some people just make fun of people like you, because others do. I think that it's even more primitive to become who you are because of the experience of others.

Ok, then why do it? I cant see it as being something fashionable...unless its for some kinda weird turn on, but then the cutting should be on an area that wont be seen.

Yea seriously. They should send off all these cutters to some third world country or some cold place like Siberia for a week or so. That would teach them to appreciate the luxurious life they really live.

In some places in Africa, things are so bad, little kids have to resort to inhaling fermented sewage to escape reality, or even eat their own feces or dirt so they don't die of starvation for a couple more days.

I started out poor, had nothing, I got everything then it all went away. So I was back and still am at square one.

Funny, that you do not mention that some people are addicted to the rush of pain. Some people I know are addicted to getting tatoos, because they enjoy the rush of pain. Its like a drug. Its the same crap. Just a different way of expressing it. Get over it and move on.

Trust me when I say if you understood it, you'd be doing it too.

Talking about it is futile, I mean are you actually doing anything to help these people get over their problems?

I find people who cut their wrist kinda... Sheltered? Havent seen much of the world, at least not enough to know whats terrible in life and whats not. That sounds awful, but most of them don't have any real problems and just do it for attention. I'm friends with a few people like that and I can tell just by spending a weekend at their house that there can't be THAT much wrong with their lives to drive them to the point of trying to kill themselves.

One of my old friends (i.e. not my friend anymore) used to have a rich family, was spoiled and got everything she wanted. Then they became middle-class, along with most of us. Not poor, just normal. She couldn't handle not getting what she wanted anymore so she started cutting her wrists and showing it to people. Most people who I've known to do this just do it for sympathy and attention, to get people to say "Aw, your life must be so hard!"

-Continuing rant- These people need a peek into the lives of people who actually HAVE a hard life. People in domestic abuse/ abusive homes, in third-world countries, people who don;t know if they'll live to see the next day. They need a reality check, and maybe then they'd realize that "I didnt get that video game I wanted! My life is so terrible!!! You just dont understand me!!" is NOT a excuse for cutting yourself.
However, some people don't do it in an attempt at suicide, just for the pain and adrenaline rush. I don't understand much of that scenario, but it's still another strange thing about this particular topic =/
It's not really anything to laugh about, people killing themselves, but it's just a little... overblown on thier part.

Some do, its personal choice or preference. Though you mostly only hear about those that do it in easy to see areas.

A lot of people do it in places that are easily seen so others will think their life is hard and give them sympathy. I know people who actually try to show off stuff like that >_>

Liking to get tatoos is not suicidal, it's basically the same as getting a piercing.
And as Maru says, if it's just because you like to hurt yourself do it somewhere else than on your wrists/arms which are visible a lot. If you've ever seen suicidal wrists, you know it looks disgusting.
Cut your buttcheeks, few will see it and the risk is a lot lower to actually hit a vital spot.
And if people ask, blame it on the toilet paper.

And I agree with Kitsune, if you do it because you think you have it so bad, try living in the poorer parts of the world and reconsider.
Maybe it wasn't so bad after all to not get that über cool Bratz doll for Christmas (or whatever kids think is cool today xD) when you haven't eaten anything for a few weeks.

And just for the record I have/had suicidal friends who did this on a daily basis for no real reason.
They said that life was hard for them which was easily just crap.
They are my friends, but I've never symphatized with them because it was all just attention wanting.
One of them is one of the most spoiled kids I've ever known.

I've hit rock bottom in my life before. . . And it is easy to think of inflicting pain on yourself to make you feel more better or satisfied. . . But once you cut yourself, life still is the same it's not going to make life better. . . O__o

Know it's because emo's are the wimps of the universe. That whole poetic sympathetic towards the environment tofu eatin' side of them is just the stupid teenage rebellion stage of life. I think they cut themselves because they do not know how to get a proper way of giving pleasure to themselves. When a human has a wound the body creates a natural pain killer. Much like the effect of a drug. This can be related to running and releasing endorphins. A natural high.

I have to say, I have more tolerance for such self destructive behavior since I often smoke to deal with stress or depression (Which I've been experiencing...alot lately). Smoking is obviously self destructive (in the long term) but you can't accidentally kill yourself in the span of minutes from smoking. You can just purposefully die of lung cancer 40 years later.

Not all emos are cutters, in fact I fall into that emo group (Only because of my taste in darker clothes and rock music, I don't act like a typical, whiny emo though) and as you can plainly see by my post, I don't do that stuff and have a strong dislike for it o.O Most "cutters" are trying to be emo (Why? I have no idea) so they follow the stereotype >_>

At least in my experience. The rush of pain brings the sensation that you have done justice in life because from 'punishment' supposedly comes 'redemption'.

It's illogical in it's ways, and it's used to deal with pain of what your mind can't take. Deal with what pain? That's the big question, they don't truly know usually. They blame their lives just to have something to say.

I have done it out of anger ( in the past), anger against myself and others. It made me feel stronger as I watched it bleed, and it seemed to sweep away any feelings of weakness I had. Until about 30 minutes later when I just looked back on it and sighed.

Basically I find it stupid, but I get the feeling to do it at certain times, and it's because my mind somehow makes connections to it.

So why do people make fun of those who do it? They don't exactly understand what your reason is 'specifically' and it's because you don't either. It is stupid, but that doesn't mean they should take such action.

To correct it you need to keep all sharp objects out of reach or out of sight in your environment. As for me I'm surrounded by swords and what not. But I have enough control to know better, and that in itself is a mentality thing.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I explained my own thoughts on it right, but I'll see as I go on in my ponderings.

Hey, I sometimes wear dark clothes and I listen to alot of death metal. Does that make me emo or goth? no. I simply like dressing like that sometimes, and I enjoy that type of music.

Also, i don't believe that emo's cut themselves just for the endorphin rush. I'm not a psychologist, but I a psych would know things about an emo's psyche that even the emo's themselves aren't aware of, which motivates them to have such a masochist personality. I bet emo's constitute a majority of their clients.

Okay, the cutting thing I don't get, but while I understand the fact that many arm-cutters are seeking attention, the whole "Other people have it worse" argument never sat right with me. Different people have different thresholds, and comparing pitiful experiences does nothing. Similarly, some people become stronger from an experience, while another will crumble. In other situations, it may be reversed.
