Scariest video game moment

There was a similar thread, but it's closed, so I'm remaking it. What's the scariest video game moment?

I nominate The Shalebridge Cradle in Thief 3. Everything else, fear wise as far as games go, pales in comparison to this utterly disturbing level. The rest of the game isn't that scary, but the sheer atmosphere of this level is enough to merit playing it through in 20 minute segments, with pauses in well lit rooms.

Seriously, supposedly "scary" games like Doom 3 and FEAR are like a trip to disneyland compared to the cradle. They use cheap parlor tricks, like in bad horror movies with monsters lashing out at you. But this the cradle is different, it's much more psychological.

I'm not into that many killer/scary games but my bro is and so far the one that i'm disgusted at is Resident evil4 because of the Regenrators.Its disgusting how there always twitching,they breath like there having an asthma attack,and you have to shoot these parasites off there body and then when ya do,half there body explodes out and there legs are still walking with blood thats like dirty brown like sour water spurting out.

Although i sometimes laugh at it.

I think running into Pyramid Head for the first time in Silent Hill is the scariest, even today with all the newer horror games out, I don't know what it is but he scares the crap out of me lol.

The RE series has always been fairly scary but the second one by far I think is the scariest. It is really suspensful, much more of a horror game than the others.

I don't think iever saw him play 2.I know he has it but i think he just doesn't play it anymore.Hes trying to buy the one on the wii now.I so wanna see him play it and maybe for once i won't be so scared to pick up the controller and play myself(lol)

I like 4 the best but RE0 is kinda cool to.

I nominate the prolonged appearence and spitty sounds of the "Flood" on the "Halo" video games.

Anyone who has played any of the exsiting 3 Halo games knows exactly what I'm talking about. These beings are very unpredictable and it's almost very hard to determine where they are attacking you if you're not staring directly in their faces. Honestly, fighting the "Flood" by yourself on "Legendary" isn't the funniest thing to do. I mean if I'm playing at night I make sure that I have all the lights on in the house cause the "Flood" creeps me out!

Ok, this is a throwback. Does anyone remember the Jurasic Park video games for the Super Nintendo? Well, when I first got the system one of the games that I had at the time was the Jurasic Park game and note that the graphics weren't all that great but the sound was very scary. I mean only moving up and down and side to side only enabled you to do so little. Running from the T-Rex, sprinting with the Galopasaurus, and tring to avoid the Velocaraptors was pretty intense if you ask me.

The "Flood" is awsome but your right without the lights on it gets a little to scary and creepy.I never will play halo again though because i got so scared once(lol).I only watch my bro play it now.

Yeah, it's my brothers fault for my addiction to Halo. I'll never play it on Heroic or Legendary without help. You should get Assassin's Creed ^_^ that game is very good!!! The graphics and story line is great. It's just a shame that I beat the game so quickly because my enthusiasm for it has dimminished.

For me Metal Gear Solid 2. When everything started going crazy. Fission Mailed and the weird sayings. I thought my cd got scratched or my PS2 has gone to crap. Its also at the time Raiden is nude. And it hit me, my PS2 is a homophobe. I felt special that my PS2 is as biased as me. Then some random guy on a forum says thats supposed to happen. Then I was back in the pits of my own hell.

But in all honesty the scariest moment for me... Resident Evil 1. No I am not talking about the remake I mean the ORIGINAL, the one where major cinematics were actual people. You have the opening and you can't hardly see anything. You hear growling, then you see the white teeth. One guy of the STARS team gets taken down, by a whole bunch of whatever they are. The team runs inside the mansion. Your walking down a hall, then a cinematic as you come around this corner you see legs twitching, then you get closer and then you see another person and this guy is eating a guys face. This was my first time playing a horror game at all, I was like "Holy crap!"(This was before I learned about how cussing is so damn cool. j/k Don't do it kids, its bad for your health.) And I fired almost all of my ammo in to that thing. I was like that was awesome, a shoot em up type game, this should be easy. But I was wrong, I kept walking down the hall, I was expecting another come around the corner and then a zombie dog jumps through the window. I shot twice... then I was out of ammo. I died. My heart was pounding and I needed a change of underwear. All in ten minutes, rather than what takes many old people a bottle of exlax and a newspaper. That was quality.

Silent Hill is one of the scariest games of all time, the atmosphere that it sets is just chilling and then in Silent Hill 2 the addition of the pyramid head was truely genius. Silent Hill was already creepy enough but add in some crazy Godlike dude with his "knife" that can't be killed but makes short work of you adds to the fear. 3 was pretty scary aswell with bunnt suits laying around covered in blood and the whole outside with loads of grating and stuff. 4 was just crap. And can't knock 1, it is the original.

I have to agree with you guys, silent hill 1 would probably be the scariest of em all. I mean really, your an ordinary guy and you have to beat a lot of demons ( they look like demons to me). Man, that game's insane!!

Another would be, hmm, I would not exactly call this moment scary but rather very intimidating. In resident evil 4, you know el higante right? The big guy? When I first saw the guy I was like "How the hell am I gonna kill that guy with a gun? I need a bazooka!!"
The merchant has an RPG for sale right? Can I ask a question about that? Can I get more ammo if I buy it?
It says only good for 1 shot so I don't buy it, anyone who knows, please lend me your wisdom!!

I've also gotta go with the introduction of the Flood in Halo:CE. It gets my vote for the great atmospheric change from gung-ho charge the enemy, to holy $#%^ full retreat. The magic of the moment doesn't work the second and third time around though (*cough* Halo 2 and 3).

My other vote goes to Katamari. If gay were contagious, this game would be quarantined in a plastic bubble surrounded by a blazing inferno of burning anti-septic.

I've played both Fear and Doom, and both aren't all that too scary. Doom was just running into lots of demons and zombies in the dark, which gives an occasional "Crap!" but mostly because of the damge they can deal.

Fear was a bit more atmosphereric, moments like catching a glimps of Agatha. One famous moment is when you're walking through some abandoned offices and the damn girl in the red dress comes running out from one of the corners.
That and the small cramped place where she pops out of nowhere, hopping towards you. (sounds silly I know, but first time playing it is pretty going.)

Then there's the Fatal Frame series, armed with only a camera, you take photo's of ghosts to exorcise them. This is pretty terrifying, not just cause of the graphics and music, but because you're really unable to move freely. The same goes for Resident Evil.

But the worse (best) game I've tried playing is the Silent Hill series, I have yet to muster up the nerve and courage to finish this game, headphones on and in the dark.

The hazy graphics and fog help build atmosphere, as well as the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka. The monsters in the games aren't just any monster, but they're symbolic of the suffering and evil in the game's characters. Small little things, like the spinning wheel of the fallen wheelchair.

Silent hill 1-4 wasn't really scary. The only thing your really scared of is dying because they don't give you good enough weapons to fight the monsters with.The monsters take 2 clips before they actually die, so I'm scared of running out of ammo. You also might be scared that you might not be able to figure out the puzzles in the game before you turn 50. Im deff not scared of the monsters though because they all look the same. With an exception the zombie dogs, which should really stay in resident evil , all the monster look like bloody shapes.
