Hey, I just want to know if braces are really that painful. . . Because I'm hoping to get braces soon. . . =_____=;;

It's painful to have teeth that aren't perfect. . . Especially spaced out ones as well. . . I'm unfortunate to be born with 4 missing adult teeth, and that sucks a lot. . . T______T

You don't know how cruel people are now-a-days. . . T__T

Do some people have to wear head gear for braces? Because I've heard stories of that, and I'm totally scared. . . being in school and everything. . . =(

So anyways, I just want to know if braces are really that painful? Like what foods can't you eat? Is the process of getting them on painful?

Actually i think you'll be okay.I never had braces but my cousin did and he didn't have head gear or anything like that,just a pair on his teeth.Anyway also i don't know about the eating thing so sorry can't help ya there.

Depends on what you get pushed into your mouth besides braces and what happens afterwards. Its not painful to get your braces on but after getting them tightened every 6 weeks, your mouth is sore and you can't eat anything except soup and soft stuff. If you wanna know more detailed stuff, PM me. But overall, I don't mind them. Nearly 90 % of the people in my school have had or have braces.

I've never had braces, but my friends tell me that getting braces dosen't hurt, it's getting them removed that really hurts ;_;! I have underbite, but my teeth are okay. My ma said I would get braces, but never have. My teeth are strong! And I have as set of really sharp teeth, I'm not kidding, my choppers can bite! Hard! And back on subject *clears throat*, Ahem, well, all I can say is, there is nothing to be afraid of, and braces don't hurt when first put on, and only in extreme cases were any retainers involved(and I'm pretty sure your teeth aren't that serious, right?).

Umm. . . Well, like anyone elses' reaction, they would either stare at my mouth when I'm talking or they'll straight up ask, "What happened to your teeth?" =(

I don't think my teeth aren't too serious though. . . My teeth are strong, because even though chocolate is my favourite *cough-cough* I haven't had cavities since I was extremely young. . . It's just because I was born with 4 missing permanent teeth, which can cause a lot of spacing. . . So my life totally sucks that way. . . I just need braces to pull out my cross-bite, close all my teeth together and have 4 bridges for my missing teeth. . . xP

I feel that if I have straight teeth, I'll feel better about myself and will be able to talk to more people that way. . .

Gosh, I can't believing I'm doing this for appearance. . . =____=;; So not me. . . But it's always the first impression that counts in society usually. . . T_____T

Magisha, you don't need to care what others think of you or how they look at you(unless reputation is that important to you). I was afraid to get braces, but never got 'em for some strange reason. Now, I don't fear things so much. 4 teeth missing is not that bad. For me, it's the sharp fang-like teeth I have and my underbite, but don't worry, some people explained some things above quite clearly.

Anyway yes don't worry.Most likely it will not hurt and the only problem with my teeth is that i had 4 cavities in the past(way to much candy but can't help hyperness)
Other than that my teeth are purrrrrfect.(lol)Sorry

Ugh...Braces...They weren't as painful as I thought they were gonna be..but they sure are annoying. But I'd rather have good teeth and had braces rather than crappy teeth and go through surgery later.

I'm not sure how old you are, but anywhere between Elementary and High school is very common to have braces. Besides the first, "Oh hey you got braces!", people never notice. They're very much invisible. Never had the headgear though.

As for the pain, yes it'll hurt a bit. Your teeth may feel a bit loose and will hurt under pressure the first few nights. The best thing to do is to stay away from tougher to chew foods, preferably liquids, and wait. The pain slowly goes away over about 2-3 nights. This'll usually happen after tightenings as well, but rarely as painful.

It's more annoying than terrible. I found the initial retainer much more annoying. With the lisp, giant piece of plastic in your mouth, and having to brush it constantly. Ugh.

Hes stupid for doing that.His hand was really bloody and the skin was torn off.It looked kinda cool actually.......Anyway....yeah just don't get hit in the mouth or hit someone else (lol)

I believe braces are painful in the sense that people will tease you at laugh at you, if you are in a very young crowd that is.

It probably won't phase you, but take a good look at your reputation repot on your profile, and you'll see what I mean. And other recent threads you've posted on. If it was my forum, I would permit, but, it isn't my forum, and I don't make the rules for it, I'm just simply following them.

I just looked at the report and you are correct, it did not phase me at all. I have myself an over bight and buck teeth, for some reason people say that it is something that gives a plus to my appearance, more character I presume. It's never stopped me from getting a girl and it's never caused me any insult except when I was in school of course. But things that are said in school are not important in the real world anyway.

My brother has braces and worrying about the pain of braces is the least of your worries, it's more along the lines of constant visiting the dentist nearly twice a month. The reason that stopped me getting them is by the time I was old enough to afford them I realised I would be about 30 by the time I didn't have to wear anything on me teeth, and who cares what your teeth look at 30 when you are going bald right?

It's all just a self conscious issue, I always say if you are charming and studly enough, who needs great teeth?

I haven't got my braces yet, the dentist told my mum I didn't need them, but my mum still wants me to get them just in case.
