    Default Random Kanji Help #8

...For the old members of AnimeLyrics.com, I'm baaaack. And so is my "traditional" thread. =)

For those who don't know what this thread is...I often type up kanji lyrics (and romaji) from lyric scans. But since I don't know a lot of kanji, I'll often need help. So I'll copy the kanji images I can't read, number them, and post them here.

If you know how to read a certain kanji word, please type it here (and PLEASE label it with the appropriate number; it'll make things easier for me).

    Thanks in advance!!

    001 - kata(reru) (語れる)
    004 - shoumon (証明)
    005 - kata 肩
    006 - 根性
008 - Not sure, but middle kanji seems to be '転' and the first also has the 車 radical. I thought it might be 軸?

013 乾い the kanji means dry. but ive never seen it used as an i-adjective before. not sure how to read it. could be いぬい or maybe かわい. but if i had to take a guess i'd go with いぬい
    014 熱 - ねつ
    015 砕かれた - くだかれた (くだく)
    016 追い - おい (おう)
017 縁なぞり - ふちなぞり btw this kanji can also be read as えん or ゆかり depending on the situation
    018 指 - ゆび
019 貝殻拾い - かいがらびろい (かいがら) and (ひろう)

hope that helps. in the brackets are the verb's root word in hiragana so that it's easier for u to look up the meaning.

btw in the other threads there are many suggestions of programs u can use as a kanji dictionary. have a look at them. coz 60% of the kanji u posted here, u could have probably figured out urself if u had the right tools. just saying that u can get an immediate answer rather than having to wait for someone to reply, if someone ever does....

Thank you both for the help; I really appreciate it. ^^

@tetekmakhang: Don't I need to know what "radicals" are in order to use a kanji dictionary? I don't really know anything about kanji. I can only romanize lyrics based on the following:

    1) I hear what the singers say, plug what I hear (in romaji form) into a dictionary and find out if I'm right.

    -AND / OR-

    2) I've seen a word so many times that it's committed to memory (like "kokoro", for example).

So that said, I really don't think I can use a kanji dictionary, at least not at this point in time. =(

Just wanted to respond to a few things you posted, tetekmakhang:

This is actually my mistake, 'cuz I didn't post the full word. It's actually "kawaiteru" (乾いてる).

Thanks for the information! (Based on what I hear in the song, the correct reading is definitely "fuchi-" though). ^^

Again, based on the music, the last part is just "hiroi". (I thought she was saying "hitori" [she slurs her words so much. ><], and I knew that wasn't right so I didn't bother with saying it. ^^; )

Thanks again for all the help, both of you! =)

well it depends what kind of kanji dictionary you're using. if you're using the traditional book version, then yes you'll need some basic knowledge on how to look up a kanji.

but then ime has this useful tool that lets u try and write the kanji yourself. mistresspookychan mentioned it in this thread:

The ime writing tool is very handy, but doesn't provide an english translation- just the reading. But it is still fantastic. I think there is a firefox add-on that does a similar thing, but with English translations. There are also some electronic dictionaries that have a writing feature.
