I'm going to leave the Biblical argument to Tod, who actually knows what she's talking about on the subject, but I will say this: I once talked to a person who was Jewish, who had read the original Hebrew scripts. That old Leviticus line, where it condemns "lying with a man as with a woman" [paraphrased] isn't a correct translation, only a possible one. Another version is "as with the layings of a woman," which could mean "don't sleep in women's pajamas". Things like that are not meant to be taken at face value.

He's gay because he's gay. I seriously doubt your dying friend chose to be gay to antagonize anyone, so if other people don't like that, they just need to learn to deal with it.

Um, I don't know if you noticed this, but it's not just gay men who have HIV/AIDS. Sexually transmitted diseases have no gender bias and no sexual orientation. Lots of staight men and women are also infected, often through needles. And back in the 80s, a lot of straight hemophiliacs were infected because there were no tests to find HIV in donated blood.
Being gay doesn't automatically mean you'll die of AIDS. But then again, being straight doesn't mean you'll die of colon cancer or anything.

Oh, and by the way. A lot of homosexual relationships are more stable and loving than heterosexual ones. So basically, people of your mindset are trying to say "I'd rather support an unhappy heterosexual relationship than a stable homosexual one."

Homophobia is part of the whole host silliness that came with the middle ages. It came natural with the shift to omnipresent Abrahamic religion. Before that, there wasn't a cultural climate that could sustain puritanism (in the colloquial sense), and therefore no homophobia.

personally, I think that your friend is weird. Ofc he does NOT deserve to die just because he is gay. Homosexual is something that you are born with, you cant help it. They are just as you and I, they are just falling in love in other people. Nothing wrong or strange with that. To me, gay is okay, and is a natural part of life. It's just those people that don't understand it that say it's not okay. You are naturally scared of something you don't understand, but when you show them the beauty of that fear, they no longer fear it, because it has become apart of them. I think it is okay to be gay, just like it's okay to live, cry and breathe! I hope people understand something, and not simply judge it the first time! That's like writing something/someone off from the start! To me, it's okay to be gay, because I respect everyone equally, and not for their likes in sexes! I'm straight and still going on strong, and Thanks to anyone that actually took the time to read my reply!!!(Note:Your friend is one of my examples of people who simply don't understand!)

It's not appropriate for someone to say, "You deserve to die because you're gay/straight/bi/whatever."
Although I can see why some people are against issues like that. Religion comes in and butts heads with the gay marriage issue. Others are just weirded out by the idea. Maybe they fear that seeing people of the same gender together might have an influence on their children.
Honestly, people do need to realize that love isn't about gender and people shouldn't be judged on sexual orientation. I find my gay friends a joy being with.

Gay people are nice to be with. Sometimes they are funny. Actually, some of my friends are gays. I like them a lot. For me, gay is okay and there is no problem if they are gays at least they are kind people. We should respect them.
