First of all, a small warning. This post is quite large, and I mean it. But if you actually take your time to read whats written you will surely learn something about Manga and Anime, at least more than you would by trying to speak pseudo-jap, acting like a wannabe catgirl or buying the Zabuza-Sword from Toys-R'-Us.
With this thread I'd like to appreciate 3 great mangakas that have made Anime to what it is today:
Osamu Tezuka, Manga no Kami-sama
Osamu Tezuka is known as the "Father" or the "God" of Manga. At the moment of his death, his creations included over 700 manga with more than 150'000 pages!
Plotlines: Tezuka is the Father of Manga!
In the beginning, Mangas were condemned to be short stories such as those printed on Newspapers. Tezuka began to make longer manga that actually had a plot overtime and told vast stories with them, bringing manga out of the "Just for a laugh" image, he is the reason why mangas can have more than 4 panels of story and have deep plotlines, awesome fighting scenes etc. Tezuka's stories vary from tales for little children such as Tetsuwan Atomu (aka Astro-Boy) or Kimba to thrilling stories involving politics, such as Tell Adolf (A manga about 3 people named Adolf during WW II, a Jew, a Nazi and Hitler himself). With Tezuka, Manga and Anime became more serious business.
Large Eyes: Tezuka made them!
Many typical traits and cliches in Anime and Manga, such as the "Large Eyes" style was invented by Osamu Tezuka. His vast amount of creations have layed a solid fundament for the developement of Manga and Anime to how we know them today.
