What's worst?

What is worst I wonder...To lose your legs, arms, etc by birth or by accident. What do you think is worst? I'll respond when there's a few replies.

For me, I'd have to say losing my arms by accident because by birth you don't have any control over it. If it was by accident, then maybe you could have done something to prevent it (having that on your conscience)

I find losing a limb in accident is worst. Something like that can totally change a person's life.

If i loose my arms...... i would'nt be able to use the comp, play games, take a shower... .... and if i loose my legs..... i wouldnt be able to move..... then my life would suffer until i die... :o... sux much?

Who said? A friend of mine lost his hand (still attached, but disabled). But he still does normal things. Except doing things with his hands. But he still leads a normal life.

Alright, just because a person has no limbs (or has lost one or two) doesn't mean that they won't lead a normal life. Their daily routine will be altered, and the people who live with the person will probably have to adjust, but they will still be the person they once were or always have been.

Losing a limb by accident would be the worse of the two; you and your family would need to adjust to the fact that there will be times where you can't be as independent as you may want to be.

By accident, definitely. If you're born that way, you will have naturally adapted and will never miss or reminisce on what you used to have or what it was like having the limbs.

i think losing your limbs by accident is worse. you'll feel pain, it'll be hard to adjust and family would probably wouldn't know how to act. it would be...awkward.

When I ment not normal I ment handicap. It's true that no mather what, even if a person has a missing limb it dosent change who you are. However, you can't change that fact that even if you were born like that, you feel like you don't fit in(I'm saying this cause I have a friend like that and thats how she used to feel like).

That's a tough choice. If you were born without arms or legs, you wouldn't know what it feels like to have those limbs. To me that seems to be a difficult feeling to understand. But I think it would be worse if you lost them in an accident later in life. Now you can't do some of the things that you used to do and took for granted. It can be, in a weird way a humbling experience. I think I would want to lose my legs because then at least I'll be able to play my video games and use my computer. If it had to be an arm it would be my left arm, since I'm right handed.

I think I wil throw in a rather random fact here. I knew a person who - either through birth or accident (I beleve birth) did not have any arm after the elbow and did not have any leg from just above the knee. This person ran, did storts and attained his Gold Duke of Edinburgh - this involves at least a week of backpack walking and camping - often over difficult terrain. He certainly did not let the lack of legs hold him back.
My cousin also lost all control of her body below the waist as a result of an accident at 13 (or so). That was 10 years ago and she is only now starting to be able to stand again. It has taken 10 long years to get to this stage, yet now there is a ray of hope and she should be walking again, but it has been a hard battle. Also the emotional stress affects both her and her family.

To lose one's limbs from birth means to never have had a function of your body that all others take for granted; however this does not mean that it will not be painful to watch other enjoy things that you cannot take part in.
To lose one's limbs in accident is crush also because you cannot experience what you once took for granted.
In both there is emotional stress involved and in both there is loss; as to which loss is the greater ask yourself, would you have wished never to run, or to have run for years and then lose that ability?
Clearly this is no simple question and at the end of the day what a person loses due to a deformaty such as this will differ depending on the indevidual affected and on their outlook and aims in life.

I think the worst is when you lose your eyesight by accident. You used to see everything clearly and by one day, you lose it. It'd be frustating for me, personally. It must be very hard to accept it as a destiny. The only colour you could see is black for the rest of your life... I've heard some people might even commit suicide.

I would say losing your limbs in an accident. If you lost them at birth, you would have develpoed ways to live like that, while if you lost them in an accident, you would have to totally change how you do everything. Plus, if you were born that way, you would never experience things that inculde limbs, so you wouldn't feel as bad because you never lost anything emotionally.

Also if you lost them in an accident, it could be based on your own stupidity, and it could have been prevented. If you DID lose them in an accident, you could blame it on yourself because it could be all your fault. At birth, it is in no way your fault, it was simply something unchangable.

Another reason I find losing them in an accident worse is because the impact could devastate your family and friends. They could soon lose faith because this happened to you, and they've never seen you like this. I'm not saying some parents don't lose faith if their child is born that way, but I'm saying that they grow to accept it. It would take a while to accept the fact you now lost limbs and so much more.

By accident.. Since you've lived a life having those body parts, then they're gone. And probably if you have something like a trauma.
But to think about the other side.. If you're born without those body parts since the very beginning, it's rather odd. [I can't explain it clearly.. >_<]

By accident. Because it'd be hard to adjust. Compared to losing it by birth, you'll grow through times knowing how to move and such, so it's easy..
