Grape Flavors

We all know the fruit grapes. Adn teh candy/jiuce flavor grape. In your honest opinion do they taste remotly the same. Let's take Joly Ranchers and Kool-aid as an example. Does it taste like the fruit?

In my view it doesn't. It tastes horrible. The friut is delicious, but those candy flavors are ew. Also I'm the guy who hates pizza, well pizza sauce. So yeah. Your thoughts?

Look, Artifical flavors come in five flavors: Blue, Orange, Purple, Red40, and Yellow5. Didn't elementary school teach you anything?

Personally I feel that Purple is too rich and kind of perfumey compared to the straight sugar rush of Red, or the "bright" flavor of Blue. Orange is a nice middle of the road flavor, and Yellow I stay away from because I once heard from a friend of a friend who was totally told by that cool older kid that it lowers your sperm count.

I love grapes, but I hate grape-flavored candy. It's disgusting. Usually it DOES taste relatively similar, but no one can capture the pleasant taste of a grape into a candy.

I think the reason I love grapes so much but not the candy is because it's juicy. If you don't have that "juiciness" factor there, it will never taste the same. =(

Eh... I never really thought about it that much until now. The grape flavor for the candy tastes (now that you mention it)....tastes rather horrible. There's this unpleasent after-taste.=[

I love the original grape-flavored grapes...I agree with jinglefox.No one can replicate the yummy juicy taste of this purple round fruit.

You would never expect things to taste the same from liquid to solid. Grape is something that never tastes like its juice counter part, grape is just grape to me, if its juice, its its own flavor you know. Ever squeezing a grape and the juice tastes nothing like it. My thoughts, I like both the juice and the fruit, both are different to me and I each call them by their individuality. I like pizza sauce, not too much of it, but I like it on my pizza.

Anywho I love grapes but I cannot stand that artificial grape flavor... it just tastes horrible >.< So I agree with jinglefox and Jack of blades on this topic...

now that you mention it, it doesnt even taste much alike.
Artificial grape taste more.... thicker. eg, Vitagen grape flavor.
same goes to grape flavored candy.
The true ancestors of grapes tastes lighter.


BTW, i dont know wth is this "kool-aid" nor "Jolly ranchers".

Under no way shape or form has the schools I've been going to give remotely ANY explaination on the flavors. I've just been told growing up. "HEY KIDS! NEW GRAPE FLAVOR! CHERRY! OH JOY! ROT YOUR TEETH! AND DIE OF BAD STUFF!"

Only time someone said red is when someone I knew licked a "cherry" flavored Jolly Rancher and went, "Can you taste RED?! I CAN!"

And for Kool-Aid it's that horribly advertised juice drink with some giant living jug of the juice. And he always goes, "Oh YEAH!"

Jolly Ranchers are just Hard Candy. In that American place.

I LOVE artificial Grape flavour. It actually tastes a lot like Isabella red wine, which in turn made of Isabella red grapes. Go taste 'em and see for youself.

I actually love any artificial flavours. I mean, my teeth and my stomach have beaten everything up till now. Heck, they've beaten russian doeners with pickles, and even my sense of taste was nearly killed by it. But artificial flavours just taste... Well, artificial. And nostalgic. And damn sweet. Yes, I'm a sugar maniac, go sue me...

Since it was the color purple, they called it grape flavor.

It is clear you have not grown up in the same environment I did, where we were smart enough as kids to look at the ingredients and notice not once does it mention grape, oranges, cherries, or any other fruit, but had plenty of food coloring.

Actually, most artificial coloring does have a flavor, and that flavor is HORRIBLE. That's why most things heavily laden in food coloring tastes bad.

Just to drive my point home, saying that artificial colors are not also artificial flavors is false. Most artificial colors in juices, are also mixed with artificial flavoring.

It doesn't really taste like the fruit, no. Of course, keeping in mind that there are many different types of grapes and each have their own distinctive flavour. Although, anything that has "grape flavour" in the ingredients is probably just one component actually found in grapes. "Grape extract" would give it more of an accurate grape flavour.

It's like a cherry. The flavor in the actual fruit is different then the candy. Personally, I love regular, plain old, healthy grapes. Taste yummier and healther.

Wow, I never actually thought about grape-flavoured foods not tasting like grapes. But, now that I think about it... They don't taste alike at all, really.
But if the food(s) actually tasted like grapes (green or purple)... Would that actually taste good?

Yea, I found out they tasted totally different when I tried Bubble Tape/Grape Flavor. It was good, but I perfer grapes, all the way.
