The fact that you made another irony thread when there already was one.

EDIT: I'll agree with you on those terms. I also prefer this thread because in my opinion it is a more decisive and better question.

Well, they both involve irony, but they're different questions so I think its ok. (Heck we always get a dozen love threads)
Well, once I saw a cat chasing a dog (it was a dachshund). I guess thats ironic.

lol thats irony right there.
Its a really feeble one but in the transformers movie the one that transforms into a policecar is a decepticon *nods* (lmao)
AH! I got a good one now...The american government. Claims to be "righting" the world, when in fact they are making matters worse haha
>_>; A better question huh...(I think I might agree)?
The Most ironic thing I've ever seen was local kids riding bikes, while stealing other bikes. Like, they took the bikes from the other local kids and then rode away with them on their own bikes... It was odd.
Worst irony I ever talked about was making fun of three year old paraplegics (which no one would do).
A man chooses.
A slave obeys.
Does everyone here know what ironic IS? It doesn't seem to be so.
Ex. Two diabetics are going to the pharmacy for their insulin. One is killed in a crash with a truck full of cookies. The other is killed similarly, but the truck is carrying insulin. While both are irreverently amusing coincidences, only the second accident is actually ironic, as the insulin was supposed to keep him/her alive. This unexpected outcome defines irony.
Becasue so many of you (here) don't seem to understand irony, I find this thread ironic.
A man gets squashed by a large hunk of Iron. Oh the Irony!
I used to agree. Then I decided being a Definition Nazi was stupid. Usage determinates definition, not vise versa. Language is organic, and changes constantly. What's important is to know the difference between common irony (funny coincidences), and literary irony (the opposite of expected results).
Now, if irony in literature comes up in a discussion, and someone confuses common irony with literary irony, you have every right to hit them with a stick. But the people in this thread are talking about common irony.
Ehhh, I dunno if I'll stick around. We'll see.

The only literary (not literal) irony I can think of, MP2000, is dramatic irony, where the audience is aware of details that characters are not. I'm sorry to say you've confused me.
As for letting usage dictate definition, I'd go completely mad if I started using "random" to mean "spontaneous" or "nauseous" for "nauseated." The reason language is precise is so that every nuance may be communicated effectivly and accurately.
I also love to drive people crazy.
And by the way, Teddy Roosevelt might have hit people with a big stick (while speaking softly, of course), but my LeMay avatar is begging for napalm (I told him the nukes were overkill), so...
Something else ironic: I've had three (3) history teachers that have claimed that Neville Chamberlain (spelling?) was not a real person. They honestly believed this.

I’ll quote my English 2 book’s glossary.
[Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing by X.J Kennedy and Dana Gloria]
Irony A literary device in which a discrepancy of meaning is masked beneath the surface of the language. Irony is present when a writer says one thing but means something quite the opposite. There are many kinds of irony, but the major varieties are verbal irony (in which the discrepancy is contained in words) and situational irony (in which the discrepancy exists when something is about to happen to a character or characters who expect the opposite outcome).Natural Languages (e.g. not constructed) overall don't get any more or less accurate over time. For every bastardized definition of Theory or Irony, there's new words made to explain concepts like snowclones, and what not. Moreover, english is not all the accurate to begin with, or so the linguists tell me.As for letting usage dictate definition, I'd go completely mad if I started using "random" to mean "spontaneous" or "nauseous" for "nauseated." The reason language is precise is so that every nuance may be communicated effectivly and accurately.

This thread is ironic.
Oh yeah, Sword, what about Afghanistan? Obviously with any violent conflict things are going to change, many for the worse no matter what (opium, ect.), but before we invaded the Taliban was in control, now they are not.
I hate threads.
Is that ironic?
