So...anyone familiar with sumo terms?

So in my Japanese class we're reading the story すもうとりとびんぼうがみ and there's this one phrase in it that I just don't understand. I assume it to be some sort of cheating, but I don't really get it.

じぶんよりからだの小さい者と、すもうをとっても ころころ まかされてしまいます。

And the bit I don't understand is the からだの小さい者と. What little thing are we talking about here? Is it a sumo term, because I googled it and all I found was a wikipedia article about oozeki and sumo.

Any thoughts? D=

but the wording is slightly different from your version (just a little bit though)

じぶんより　＝　more than himself
からだの小さい　＝　small bodied
者　＝　person
と　＝　with

combine that part all together, you get "with somebody who's smaller than him"

and combine it with the rest of the sentence you get "even when he fought a bout with somebody smaller than him, he was beaten"

i ommitted ころころ from the translation coz i couldnt fit it in without making the translation sound unnatural.
ころころ　is a japanese onomatopoeia to describe something rolling. in this context, the author is saying how the guy lost the bouts (by being tossed out of the ring and then rolling on the floor)

there wasnt any cheating ;-P

Actually, sumo wrestlers put on extra weight because there is a specific rule that being lifted off your feet by your opponent means immediate disqualification, but most of it is actually muscle, especially the legs and arms. Therefore, if you take a look at Russian or Mongolian sumo wrestlers, who have heavy bodies to begin with and don't need the extra weight to keep them in the game, you will find that they have very little body fat.

Simply throwing that out there. Demo, neta ni majiresu, kakkowarui, to iwaretemo shouganai desu ne.
