In New Guinea, people are burying those infected with the virus alive!!!

It's really sad how people are alienating those with the disease and how uneducated they are on how it's spread. Especially after 25 years of the disease. It's sad that whether in big cities or remote villages I hear stories of people still believing in certain myths of HIV (like sharing the same spoon and fork) and stigmatizing them.

My cousin who has a friend with the virus for 10 years now was discriminated against in a restaurant when she drank from a glass and a person thought you could spread it that way!!! I have also met people in their 20s at my university who believe you can get it through mere physical contact!!!

Further, it's also really shocking that the diagnoses has gone up. I thought with the information now known, it would have gone down. Especially when it's next to impossible to get it through blood transfusions.

Where has HIV/AIDS education gone wrong? Pre-marital sex based education? Condom based education? Or are people just simply not listening!!?? It's a very easy issue for people to be informed of and it's really sad that whether you're in New York City or in the Himilayas, there are people out there who don't know anything about it and are so prejudiced.

Yes, I know in Africa there are cultural issues on discussing sex, condoms and the sort, but they need to have that information.

As of now, treatments in HIV have advanced thanks to a medication called HEART or something. Not exactly a cure, but thanks to this medicine, people infected with the virus can live for another 20-40 years. Back then, there was AZT you had to take every 4 hours and I don't think it did anything. With the way HIV treatments have gone, I think it's possible to see a cure for it within our lifetime or generation.

Well, I found that article really disturbing, being shot in the head would be a better death, burrying someone a live, much less children, is just completely barbaric.

I can easily see how the numbers would rise in African countries, but maybe people arent taking the information seriously. I mean, I can see how someone would have a hard time imagining it actually happening to them, so they don't take the precautions.

Especially when it's next to impossible to get it through blood transfusions.

Huh? I'm pretty sure blood transfusion is the surest way to get it, but maybe I read something wrong.

I don't know. I'm much more impressed with the ideas they came up with in South Africa, as per having sex with a virgin being a cure. At least burying people alive will prevent HIV from spreading in some small, almost-but-not-quite worthless capacity. Since people who know they have it often still have sex with people who don't.

The thing is that sex is something that people engage in stupidly. Even if they wear a condom, it might break. What if one day they don't feel like wearing a condom, or it makes the experience less satisfying? What if they figure they can just take a birth control pill instead and accidently pass it?
People are not stupid, but you simply can't expect them to be doing smart things all the time. There's no logic to that, no point in history has such behaviour been observed.

Burrying people alive is a bad thing, but you have to take into consideration that these people want to live without taking any risks. Not all of the countries are going to have the wealth to buy top-of-the-line medication. Personally I think it should be between a country and its people about what a country does to its people.

Quite the opposite actually Its the second most sure way of contracting HIV after unprotected sex.
But yes the whole thing disgusts me.Even IF it was contractable(which it is not) they should maybe isolate them not burn them alive.
