You can also use it on babies (both boys and girls) and sometimes people younger than you.
It means "I asked Jerry when he was going to return the lawnmower he borrowed from me last year last night, but he hung up on me. That's the last time I ever loan anyone anything."
Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
I give you two words. Google it.
it can mean brother or sister in animes or mangas e.g oni-chan , mostly used with girls names though for lads its e.g. kyo so it would be kyo- kun , sasuke-kun
Dude don't be lazy I just did it, and found wikipedia def.
I got two more words of advise, Wikipedia it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan
umm isn't it what people call their friends when they are really close. like best friends calling each other -chan at the end of their name. and it's a sign of respect =/
It's a Japanese suffix title used mostly on younger girls, and a Japanophile's wet dream.
face·less –adjective 2.lacking personal distinction or identity
chan, san, sama, domo, ect. these are all terms of endeerment. they are just like us saying Mr. or Mrs. oh and between lovers chan is used for both boys and girls,it is like saying honey, baby, cutie, ect.
I am not as joyfull as i used to be....I really never was....

Chang & Chan are totally two different surnames. What about Jackie Chan?
Well, it`s actually originally Chen, but romanized as Chan in cantonese, or Chun.

It means "Horse rectum".
The rewards of tolerance are treachery and betrayal.
Jackie Chan is actually his english name. Jackie Chan's real name is actually Long Cheng.

...everyone here is dumb.
Chan is a term of endearment, but domo and sama are not. Those are terms of respect and admiration.
Chan can be used in a few contexts:
1. As part of a word, as in oniichan that someone mentioned.
2. To indicate that you and this other person (usually a girl) are close friends, add chan to the end of her name (in place of san or kun and the like).
3. To someone younger than you.
4. As a slight insult to someone, saying that they are immature.
BTW, this should be in Japanese Language.
Back, by popular demand! Now with new avy.
Cap beat me to it! I was even gonna open with something like "You're all a bunch of daft idiots."
DAMMIT CAP, YOU RUINED MY DREAMS! THANKS ALOT, I'M GONNA GO RETREAT IN THE HOLLOWS OF MY FORMER SELF!
*Chan is the butthole of the internet.
All The Ways You Wish Could Be? That's me
'SCUSE ME SIR, BUT I BELIEVE YOU WERE LOOKING FOR A GIRLFRIEND?!'Lol, wut. I oekaki lots.Pretty much the only place I go to nao.'DON'T DO IT YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR'C-cute ;o;
It either means:
1) Stranger
Or
2) Girl
