I started smoking when i was 16. I like to smoke, and ill probably smoke until they ban smoking completely, then ill have no choice, don't want to hide for something that is not worthy of it.

I don't c it as a habit, coz i stopped smoking for 4 months when i was 19, and it wasn't a problem. Then i smoked like a pack a day. But now i smoke less, no time for it i guess

I am not worried for my health, but i am concerned of other ppls health. I smoke for my self, and it's my problem. So i usually go outside of the room, or out the balcony to smoke.

Fair dos then. I don't have a problem with that, I think I can see why you'd do it. But you say it's your problem, from what you've said about it not really being a habit... I wouldn't have thought you'd view it as a problem.

Basically, i smoked because in Hong Kong, if teenagers don't smoke, they get bad reputations, which was something stupid that i believed. Teenager smoking at the age of 10 became one of the cultural issues in HK. And i smoked at the age of 13, which considered as late =]

If i go back to HK, i possibly might start smoking again.

i started when i was 14. peer influence i guess. i used to steal a few from my dad when he left the packet in his room. i gotta admit it was addictive and i smoke whenever i can get my hands on it.but then i stopped after i went for a long holiday in KL coz i cant find any cig there. lol. kinda glad... i dun wanna die of lung cancer. natural death would be best.

Smoke makes my headaches worse. (or in the case of when I didn't always have a headache it gave me headaches.)

I don't really like it in the first place. There's nothing "cool" about putting a stick of crap in your mouth. The only thing it can do is hurt you. It just shows me how blind people become due to peer influence. It's sad, really.

I've never even thought of trying it and I never will.

I started when I was legal (16), due to the fact I was stressed out because of exams, then when I joined up to 6th Form, that started to stress me so I carried on smoking and I still smoke the occasional cigarette.

I'm not one to normally get into the whole smokers vs. non-smokers debates, but this one caught my eye.

I have been smoking for a little over a year now, since I went to NTC in California and subsequently got deployed to my current location. I am going to tell you the exact reason I started:

While servicemembers are in NTC and Iraq/Afghanistan, there is no drinking involved. It's forbidden. Period. Myself being of a not-so-highly moral nature, I knew I'd have to have a vice for myself. So I picked smoking. Does it help with stress? Maybe. Not directly but more like it gives me time to sit down and do nothing but breathe and think about whatever is troubling me.

That being said, as soon as I redeploy (and thus can begin drinking again) I fully plan on quitting. But while I'm out here, I will smoke because I believe everyone needs a vice of some type. Alcohol, tobacco, drugs, sex, porn, anime, video games, caffeine, gambling and so forth, so on. Can't drink, so I smoke.

Sound like a cop-out? Maybe. But it's my reason. Free will was involved in my decision-making process, I don't whine about it or blame anybody. I chose to do what I do, no reason to cry about it.

So go on and tell me about all the horrible things smoking does to me, I've only got a few more months left here, anyway.

Peh, you're still going to spend the last 20-30 years of your life in bed pumped full of mind melting drugs (most of them to alleviate side effects of the others) at some geriatrics farm, might as well pick up smoking and die 20 years earlier.

I don't smoke. Never will. My dad is dead as of 2001 from Lung Cancer after a history of smoking and a small amount of drug abuse. Same thing to my mom, except she's still alive. She smokes right now. She told me she quit once, but it only lasted a few months. When I found out she started again, I kept it a secret for several months. She kept lieing and telling me that she doesn't, but I made her tell me again the truth, since I already knew. So, in short, I hate smokers/smoking/cigarettes.

I don't smoke, but my dad has since he was like 12; he also smoked around my mom when she was pregnant with me, so I pretty much have had smoker's lung from birth (I even have that horrible, raspy cough). Also, it caused me to be born with bad asthma and an allergy to smoke, so every time someone smokes around me I get to a point where I can't breathe until at least an hour afterwards.

I hate the smell of nicotine smoke.
