Default Who else prefers manga over anime?

While I do enjoy watching the occasional anime every now and then, manga is definitely more for me (I'm a novelist, and a novelist needs to really enjoy reading...). For instance, when seeing a scene in the manga, I can vividly vizualize it any way I want, how fast or slow the character is, and my favorite--I can choose how the character sounds in my mind when reading; I know this gets especially irritating when watching your favorite anime and the main character makes you want to kill your television with fire.

Now don't get me wrong--I love anime. I have at least $300 invested in my legal collection, and possibly even more than that in my fansubbed stack. However, if I were to count how much I've invested in manga, it could possibly top over $1000 over a time period of about 6 years.

So am I alone, or are there others who, when given the choice, would take paper speech bubbles over animated action and voice-overs?

Same here. I really prefer manga over anime. No matter how elaborate an anime can become, it really cannot defeat the simplicity of manga and the effectiveness. There are loopholes in anime that can never be filled because it is supposed to be vividly thought in the manga.

N, yeah, I am a novelist too, lol. For the record. X)

Well, I'm not so sure about it.
I like anime too, but my manga collection contains much more.
And like Chris-san says, you can visualize it the way you like.
I do think I prefer manga.

I prefer anime too, but mostly because it's a social thing around here. I am a social butterfly so to speak, I prefer groups of people over being alone. That being said, I don't read a lot. Anime I can watch with my friends, and my kids, or my husband.

I like both. It really depends on which is better. For instance, Love Hina.. I prefer the manga over the anime. Mai HiME? I definitely prefer the anime over the manga. Mai Otome, I like both but the manga is great though.

Anime and manga are two different experiences, each with their own pros and cons, at least in my book.

Manga is more of a quiet venture, where you can take your time and kick back. The story tends to be more engaging and of course, since it's still pictures, the art is usually amazing. But still, I find that action panels, despite how well drawn they are can sometimes come off muddled.

Anime has to simplify the art style a tad, but you have color and motion, which often gives scenes an added bit of depth.

The thing is, I like both. I enjoy to watch battles and comedies in moving animation, but also see through the eyes of manga and get the overall picture. Well that's how I've seen it for a while anyway.

I definitely read a whole lot more then I watch. That being said I usually stick with the originals of a series because they usually seem to be more enjoyable and tend not to destroy the original message of the series... such as Chobits the manga is much better then Chobits the anime (manga came before anime), and Escaflowne the anime is much better then the manga (anime came before manga).

But since far more series start out as manga first I typically read them instead of watching an anime where the content had to be edited down to fit into a specific amount of time.

As far as action goes I kinda like both forms, in an anime it is very easy to figure out what is going on because everything is moving as it normally does which is nice, whereas in a manga I sometimes have to analyze pages multiple times to figure out how the action blends from one frame to the next but there is usually plenty of room for interpretation of what occurred between them.

It really all depends on how well the anime is done. I would say that I like anime a bit more though. It is simply because it's a lot easier to understand. You could always reread a part in the manga that you don't understand, but that kinda slows everything down.

I mostly like the manga but sometimes it depends.. I only have bookstores around me and it is hard to get the anime that i like besides going on the internet so i usally read a lot but there are somthings i like to watch instead of read. and say one of my friends came over, we would have more fun if we watched somethings instead of read it. And sometimes i would like to compare anime to manga but i usally go to http://tv-links.co.uk/index.do/3 to do that.. But all in all,
It just really depends!! ( but mostly manga)

Well it depends on the series, for example for Ouran High, I liked the anime better than the manga. But other things like Fruits Basket, where the anime is disappointing I just adore the manga.

Manga is leaps and bound more enjoyable for me, a good manga will flesh out ever character and delve very deeply into it's world. The way it generally feels to me is anime tells stories, but manga tells stories and creates living breathing worlds.

I've always been into books so when I found manga I nearly cried with happiness, it was like a dream come true. Anime of course came close behind but it never quite caught up. Manga has always been, and I beleive always will be first in line for me. I become so addicted to almost every manga I read. So in answer to your question; Yes. I do prefer manga over anime.

I personally like anime more. Manga is pretty awesome, but there's nothing like hearing and seeing the story take place on the screen.

The only downside is, sometimes the voice-overs are disappointing.

I like anime more, I just prefer a moving picture. Manga is cool too, but it doesn't seem to convey the feelings as well. I'm sure some would like to argue otherwise, but it's just that way for me.

No they don't. They just don't want to totally copy the manga per se. They just want to animate the scenes more differently. But yet the story from the manga is still there.

Though, I also prefer manga. Because like in Whistle! There's several of scenes cut from the anime. But are present in the manga. And the manga paints a more better picture of the story. Rather than the anime.

And is classified as more serious. Even though there may be some funny scenes.

The same can also be for that Black Cat.

Yeah, I pretty much prefer manga over anime, because the usual case is that an anime series is based off a manga, and then the anime get flooded with filler episodes and doesn't fit with the main story line and blah-dy, blah-dy, blah...

Also, manga is a better source. Instead of saying, "in episode so-and-so at such and such time" and then finding the dvd or video and fast-forwarding through crap, manga travels with me and can be accessed with the flip of a page!

    Yes, manga is better!

Yes I agree manga is better cheaper too. lol.
They take alot of stuff that in the manga out when they make the anime. Ive read all the series of DNAngel that are out right now and watched some of the Anime. They were completly different. It pissed me off. I dont think ive ever yelled that loud at a television before lol.

I carry large pocketbooks, so I can normally smuggle a complete collection of manga in there *laughs* ok ok ok I don't do that. (lord help my back if I decided to carry InuYasha around) but most of my friends don't like anime (in fact on one occasion, my friend frowned upon my Ghost in the Shell collection and said that I 'wasn't allowed to watch that stuff') Also, I can get through a series a lot faster since it takes me like hardly anytime at all to read a manga. Plus you can read it anywhere, waiting on a ride...food...the end of the world. Sure you could carry a portable dvd player, but that battery has to run out eventually...and.
Oh look, I should get off of my soap box now!

    Thanks Hitsugaya389!
I will be in Vietnam/Japan until the 26th, so my posting may be limited!

but if i have to read it off my comp.. It loosed its feeling
