Help identifying anime !

Hi I need help identifying an old anime I saw a looooong time ago (this was more than 20 years ago) The anime had a gundam wing style.

I only remember there was a man sitting under a tree, in the middle of a war. He was thinking about the things he has been through and her loved one who was captured on a tower and there was also lots of people dying everywhere.

His loved one tried to send him messages with a pigeon but the soldiers kept killing it, the pigeon falls on a pile of mud and dies...

This anime was really disturbing to me the first time I saw it, and I really would like to know the name of it xD no matter how disturbed it sounds. I would really appreciate any help =/

Was it a mecha series? Or was it the animation that was similar to Gundam Wing?

It was a movie, not sure if they ever released a series out of it

But it was not Gundam Wing related, it was another anime and there was real war, nothing related to mechs
