    Default Goth Rock/ Death Rock

The Goth Rock/ Death Rock thread that talks about all things that relate to two genres that defined an era of darkness in the light. I would really like that people refrain from posting bands like My Chemical Romance or Marlyn Manson. Neither one of those bands are Goth or Death Rock and neither made any impact in the culture. Granted Gerad Way did a segment with legendary Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) on Goth Rock but it was not directly on the fact the band is Goth Rock. Please if you have any questions on either genre private message me or search it on wikipedia. I hate that site sometimes but it does give good definition of what goth rock and even death rock is.

Here are some bands to really get into for beginners.

    Bauhaus (Goth Rock)
    Sisters of Mercy (Goth Rock)
Siouxsie and the Banshees (Goth Rock)
45 Grave (Death Rock/ Horror Punk)
Christian Death with Rozz Williams (Death Rock/ Goth Rock)
Joy Division (Post Punk but refer to as Proto Goth Rock)
The Cure (Alternative Rock but some albums such as Pornography show a lot of Goth Rock value)
Death Cult/ Southern Death Cult/ The Cult (Goth Rock)
Faith and the Muse (Goth Rock/ Darkwave)
    Bella Morte (Darkwave/ Goth Rock)
    The Cruxshadows (Darkwave)
    Fields of Nephilim (Goth Rock)
    The Mission UK (Goth Rock)

    Just a select few.

When did they become Goth Rock or Death Rock?

They are a metal band with gothic influences however are not related to the genre or subculture of Goth Rock and Death Rock. Both these genres are heavily based on the post punk scene. Other genres that have expanded the culture are Darkwave which is a clash of EBM and Goth Rock.

    goths are retarded. rivetheads pwn.

Bauhaus, Sisters of mercy, they all need to comb their hair and wash the crap off of their faces.

    Goth is dead.

Not to mention you're completely wrong about Manson, he had a major influence on the music culture known as "goth"

it just wasn't in a good way.

Don't put EBM in the same category as goth. it's demeaning.

    yes, I am maschine.

    roflmao

    I can't believe I just typed that.

Seriously though, this whole lets talk about what GOTH MUSIC REALLY IS, is so 1999 yahoo chat.

Talk about Industrial and EBM and yes I do listen to those genres as well.

I don't care what people think of the genres Goth Rock or Death Rock because I know exactly what I like. Dinah Cancer is amazing and Peter Murphy is probably one of the best artist I know besides Bowie.

Manson... He only relates to the subculture based on some people that happen to listen to goth rock like the man. He relates only to association not directly genre. Mostly I am referring to genre.

An interesting collection of bands that fit in some way, shape or form in the Gothic Rock category.

For years my friend has been telling me that they are goth rock so I just assumed that they were. Obviously I was wrong, according to you. Don't get your knickers in a knot.

Goth Rock and Death Rock (NOT DEATH METAL MINI TWILIGHT) is a genre I've been interested in checking out but never really knew where to really start. Never knew Joy Division was proto-goth, and if that's teh case then it seems my kind of genre. Closer was a classic. I knew The Cure was like, proto-goth, so again that increases my interest, because I love Disintergration. Always thought they played more post-punk instead of alternative rock. Would make more sense, since I read goth rock gets stylistic roots from post-punk.

As for Manson, it isn't surprising he attracts the "goth" crowd. To me he does Industial/Shock Rock. Industrial seems to normally interest people who like goth music (a lot of people I know who like goth also love the likes of NIN, Skinny Puppy, and Mindless Self Indulgence).

I see no point to this thread other than to create a flame war which I'm not inclined to have here.
