Video editing programs

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good video editing program? I currently use VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod, but working with them is a bit limited in certain ways.

Anything that is free would be preferred (NOT Windows Movie Maker), because I don't have the money for Vegas or Premiere.

Also, I'm using Windows XP (that said, spare me from comments like "windoze sux: get mac or linux!" If you want to do that, go to Slashdot or Digg)

Though, mac really is the industry standard for media editing. You're going to have a hard time getting comparable applications on swinedose.

from much experiance at college i'd say to avoid macs >_>
cant remember the actual name of it right now, but there was an adobe program we were using not to long ago for video editing and it worked very well.
since it's adobe i dont think it'll be free (unless you steal it :P), but you may get a free 30 day trial or something for quick use.

As for the Adobe program mentioned, that probably would have been Premiere.

hmm, yep that sounds bout right. adobe is always good if ya can afford them ^^; lol
i'm sure there would be a free trial for download from adobe's offical site.

I use Wax. It's pretty good for being free, probably about the same as VirtualDub, but still a little bit of a change from the norm.

There is also magix. Not that expensive. It's like $40
