Alone in the solar system: Yes
Alone in the galaxy: Possibly
Alone in the universe: Extremely doubtful
What are the chances that earth is the only planet in the gigantic universe that can support life? Even then, different creatures can live in different environments.
i think there is life out there
we cant be the only planet with living creatures on in th universe
duh!! havent you seen starwars???? j/k i think that there is sometihng else out there

Too many star systems for us to be alone..
The universe is much larger than any human could comprehend, so who are we to be so arrogant to think that we're the only life?

AS IN ALIENS!!!!?!???? I saw one last night when I woke up!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!
One of my favorite quotes for this kind of topic:
"Odds that a mass will spawn and support life: mathematically insignificant.
Extent of the universe ≈ ∞"
Ok so I forget the rest of it, I can't find any of the books I actually used to enjoy reading anymore.
Anyway, my opinion: It seems unlikely that we are the only "living" things in all of existance. Do I believe that this planet has ever been visited by a superior intelligence? Depends on who we're using as the control example...... anyway no. Do I think that a superior intelligence exists elsewhere in the universe? eh, maybe.
There's a possibility that there's life in the universe. We never know. It's a big system out there, though I've never explored the world beyond. But I'll have to believe that there are some life forms besides from us, earthians.

Thanks to Ms Lucy for this awesome, funny gif.
The person that you are now is not the person that I used to know. You're becoming a stranger that I've never met before. Not liking the change though.
Ya, there HAS to be other life. Think about how big the whole universe is, and just us? That's extremely doubtful. There's tons of stuff out there we have no clue about. My science teacher just told us that they discovered new colors somehow. Althought I'm still doubtful, because it's hard to think of, hey, he might be right.
Damn. I read this topic's title, and run and dig out my copy of The Watchmen to copy out Rorschach's monologue on how man is alone. Then, the thread ends up being about aliens, not deities...
So yes, there are most definitely aliens. The possibility of extraterrestrial life existing in an infinite universe isn't 0, so it must be 1.
Ehhh, I dunno if I'll stick around. We'll see.

it would be more unlikely that were alone in the universe than not.
*** far as intelligent life or alien contact, i think that if an alien race is advanced enough to fly around in space there smart enough to stay the hell away from earth.
Nah, out there in the inverse there MUST be some aliens or some scary monsters that gobble up humans and eat astronaunts while they're all trying to expirment on the planets. That's why most of the times, you hardly ever hear from them again once they've come back from exploring the universe. o___o;

Yeah, we named our star and planet pretty crappily. I mean, c'mon, Earth? How many different ways do we use the word earth? I'm all in favor of just calling this rock Terra, to avoid confusion. Oh, and "the sun?" Lame. Sol, people. Start the trend.
Like has been said before, given the size of the 'verse, there's probably life. Do I beleive they've got two almond shaped eyes, grey skin, and a completely human outline. Oh hell no. That's just pushing probability too far, I think. No, when I want to think of aliens, I generally think of something like the Elder Things or the Mi-Go in appearance- Things that truly aren't human. Why? Because, I beleive that there's very little chance of a planet enough like Terra to produce a species nearly identical to appearance to humans.

When thinking about the chances of such a thing to occur, it is very possible that we are the only planet in the whole universe that has life.
If just one thing had gone wrong in the formation of the solar system, the sun, the Earth, the atmosphere, etc. we wouldn't have life. We're lucky. Totally beat the odds.
It is also possible that another planet out there may support life, but I doubt it... and if one does we won't be seeing it, trust me.

Alone in the solar system: Most likely
Alone in the galaxy: ...probably
Alone in the universe: no.
I don't believe that we are 'alone'. The universe is so big, and scientist has found another 'solar system' that is too far away from us. Who knows what's there?

I think that one of the questions that we should ask ourselves is; if we should find other life. We end up killing everything we touch, some things are just better left alone.
I do believe that other planets could support life, everything has unlimited potential, it just depends on how much money people are willing to spend.
Other planets supporting life...
It's one of the possibilities, but if you really, and I mean REALLY want to do much work around it and spend much money...
With todays science it is possible to create oxygen atleast on one planet(well, atleast I believe so),so if ppl just try it might become reality...
As for those aliens...
Nah,I dont take that as posibility, but as long as we are here, knowing almost nothing about outer space, everything is possible...
Since we're not able to find any clue about living things out from Earth,if sometimes happen that aliens came to our planet...
Well, just imagine how advanced their civilization is if they could find us and we couldn't find them(it is well known that ppl dont use even 1/4 of our brain...I mean,if we could use only half of "power" that our brain support, just imagine where we'll be now)...
But really,I dont believe they would be anything how our TV shows them, with big heads and plate-space ships...
That description of them really sucks >.<
i think so definately, every star has a life zone around it, and i think there's evidence that Mars did, at some point, have bacterial life.
Intelligent life however? i think theres a small probability, i could go on about bubles and hawkings theory but i think you get the point. I doubt we'll ever find that life though
