Pets dropping like flies.

Lately I've been noticing alot of pets going missing and never returning, also pets who get hit by cars and nothing is done about it. A couple days ago I was walking to school and saw a cat that had been hit by a car, the driver just threw it onto a snowbank and continued. I stared at the lifeless body and a tear ran down my cheek. I took a moment to reflect on the situation and walked on. What I'm getting at is do you think people should take extra precautions when letting their pets go outside?

Oh my god..that is soo horrible, i dont have any pets but if i did i would try and let them out when it was quieter and not much cars around..if i did ever hit an animal with my car..i would see if they was ok and maybe call a vet or something not just threw them off the road.

I would have stopped that person before he drives off and give him punch tell them you do everything to fix this you pay for the bills etc etc not the owners YOU.I hate cars in anyway could we not use bikes or even walk .

i don't let my dog go out alone, let him run around the garden... and my fish can't go anywhere anyway... but yeah people should take more care

Its my experience that its better to be overly protective then assume your pet will be alright, it depends on what kind of animal though.

I live in pretty rural area, we have 11 dogs on my street, all of which obediantly stay within the confines of their property without fences. Everyone has their dog trained and neutured or spayed, they don't chase cars, they don't pick fights, they don't kill the neighbors cats. A lot of it has to do with being a responsible pet owner.

If I lived in town, letting my dog just roam around unsupervised would seem like a totally stupid thing to do. I can't see someone who cared about their dog just letting it loose around town, its also not considerate of others, as it could dig into other peoples trash or garden, chase cats etc.

A lot of my cats have been outdoor cats, and they have never had any desire to go far from the house into the street, I think getting your cats spade prevents a lot of roaming.

Thats just awful, it reminds me of how I actually saw a cat get run over one day when I was like 8 or something, it was terrible the person just kept on driving.

My dogs never leave the backyard unless they are on a leash but my cat is free to come and go as he pleases. I don't have to worry about him cause he never goes near the road, he just hangs-out in the lot next to our house.

This thread makes me remember seeing a run over kitten in front of my house when I was little. My dad had to throw the body away so it wouldn't decay on the road and attract vultures and other wild animals.

I've lost almost all my cats that way. Although I never did see their actual bodies on the road or anything I have sneaking suspision that's what happened to them.

Hmm...I haven't heard anything. All I see on the news (Which I rarely watch.) is reports on how a large dog tore off some kid's arm, then the neighbors kill the dog. Or something along those lines.

Of course people should be careful when they let their pets outside. I saw my neighbor's cat's dead runover body on the way home from school. It was so flattened that you couldn't really tell what it was to a certain point. Their whole family came to scoop it off the street. By then it just looked like.......never mind.

I've never seen anything get run over...except for the road. (Haha.)

But I have seen a cat and later a frog...already, erm, squashed. *shudder*

Yeah, people should take greater care...or at least hand their pets over to someone else if they're planning to abandon them. And drivers should take caution too.

Heh, seems like most animals that gat run over are cats...so much for independence.

Ive seen cats get run over a few times, but only a few of them died. Some of them just broke thier leg or any other parts. Its so sad when i see a disabled cat. And last year i think, a monkey got ran over by car. And the driver just sped off like it was nothing!

Oh my God, that's just so awful! 0.o Now you make me remember one thing. It was really horrible and it happened not on road, not outside but inside my house, AND inside my room. I had a small neko before and he was small, well, like any kittens. My sis brought it to my room (also her room) and we leave him to his own world. However, we were not aware when my other sis entered the door from outside, the kitty was already bolting to the door. And what happened was, when the door swung, the kitty was also thrown away. And blood spluttered everywhere on the carpet. @_@ My pa immediately sent him to the hospital. He survived for, like, 2 days before passing away. I was so terrfied and sad seeing him like that cause he was the most active cat in the whole siblings of 4. Maybe that's why I never really like cats. I'm afraid the same thing happens again...

that's so sad! One time I found a little lost kitty in the woods, and decided to bring him home. my dogs didnt like him much though. one day i opened the door and the kitty bolted out. he didnt get very far...
