QUEST FOR 64BIT
Alright, this will be my blog for all that is getting vista 64bit to work. More like transcripts of my conversations. These are direct cut paste, word for word. (except for I changed my name to reo) If I put something in () then Im making a comment about it. Ready, good stuff.
|February 1st.|
{Reo} Aw...timed out. Let's try again... (after being on chat hold for 20min, it died so I had to refresh the page)
The Windows Vista Chat Session has been accepted.
{Kulandaivel} Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Chat Support. My name is Kulandaivel Ekambaram K. May I address you as Reo?
{Kulandaivel} Thanks, Reo. How are you doing today?
{Reo} Sure
{Kulandaivel} Before getting into the issue, I would like to verify some information.
{Reo} Good, as good as one can be. Alright
{Kulandaivel} Just to make sure I have the correct information, could you please confirm the following information?
Case ID : 1028906531
Email Address : ==============
Phone Number :
{Reo} Yup, all good.
{Kulandaivel} May I have your phone number please? It would be really very useful for us to contact you in future regarding this case.
{Reo} ***-***-****
{Kulandaivel} Is this the first time you are contacting Microsoft for this issue?
{Reo} Yea, just built and installed today.
{Kulandaivel} Reo, we shall trouble-shoot this issue in this session itself. But speaking generally, if we need to contact you for a follow-up, what would be the ideal time to contact you? (A two hour time slot with the time zone, please)
{Reo} 10:00~12:00 (MST) on M-F
Anytime on the weekends will be fine.
{Kulandaivel} How may i help you?
{Reo} How can I go from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Vista?
{Kulandaivel} Hard ware configuration is different for 32 bit and 64 bit ,so we cannot change from 32 bit to 64 bit in Vista.
{Reo} Vista is a 64 bit OS, I'd like to install that instead of this 32 bit version.
{Kulandaivel} What type of operating system you are using?
{Kulandaivel} 32 bit or 64 bit
{Reo} Currently 32, but I want to be running the 64 bit. I know it is on the Windows Vista Disc, but I don't know how I should go about changing to the 64 bit version.
{Reo} (or at least is plausible to obtain the 64 bit version from having the 32 bit version.)
{Kulandaivel} what type of operating system you are using? vista or Xp
{Reo} Vista.
{Kulandaivel} Thank you very much for the detailed information. Please give me 3 to 4 minutes while I research this issue. Your patience and co-operation is highly appreciated. (This actual took him 45 min)
{Reo} Please don't tell me I have to pay to have a DVD shipped to me. If I do, that's just plain ridiculous.
{Kulandaivel} Sorry, Reo it is not possible to change.
{Reo} Wait, so you're telling me there is no possible way to change from the 32bit Vista to the 64bit Vista. Even if that means reformatting or installing the OS again?
{Kulandaivel} Exactly, you have to buy a new product key for 64bit Operating system.
{Reo} I didn't think Microsoft sold a 64bit only version of Vista. Best Buy certainly did not carry it. Where can I get it?
{Kulandaivel} You can get it from the microsoft.
{Reo} I've looked on windowsvista.com microsoft.com and google. I've stumbled upon a slip that was in the Vista box that says I can obtain a 64bit Vista DVD for a small fee.
However, it seems I cannot download the version from Microsoft's site. Is that true, or can I download it from Microsoft?
{Kulandaivel} Please contact Microsoft Customer Central, contact number is 800 936 5700.
{Reo} Alright, I'll try the phone next time. Thank you Kulandaivel.
The customer has ended the chat session.

{Chitra} Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Chat Support. My name is Chitra KabeerDasM. May I address you as Reo?
{Reo} Yes
{Chitra} Thanks, Reo. How are you doing today?
{Reo} I'm alright, how are you?
{Chitra} I'm fine, thank you. how can i assist u today. (Hey, I'm all for 1337, but not in the business world. No "u" for "you".)
{Chitra} Before getting into the issue, I would like to verify some information.
{Reo} I was just curoius if I order the 64bit DVD edition of Vista to replace my current 32bit Vista edition, will my current product key work? or do I get a new one?
{Chitra} Before getting into the issue, I would like to verify some information. (30minutes after this post...30 minutes!!)
{Chitra} Sure Reo, I understand the issue you currently have. However I request you to spare me a few minutes for some quick questions here, so that if we get disconnected, it would be easy for us to contact you. May I proceed now?
{Reo} Sure
{Chitra} Just to make sure I have the correct information, could you please confirm the following information?
Case ID : 1028929703
Email Address : ------------------------
{Reo} yes that's correct
{Chitra} May i know your phone number .
{Reo} ***-***-****
{Reo} M-F 10:00~12:00
Weekends anytime
{Chitra} Thank you for your additional information.
{Reo} No problem.
{Chitra} Ok now getting back to your issue.
{Reo} Would I get a new product key or would my current one work in the 64bit Vista edition? If so, what happens to my current product key for the 32bit edition of Vista?
{Chitra} You will get a new product key for the 64bit vista DVD edition.
{Reo} What happens to my current? If I get a new product key, it would be my understanding that I would have a new license, and thus have to pay for it.
What I'd like to do is order the DVD edition and pay for the shipping, not buy a whole new retail box.
So, in doing that, would I still get a new product key?
{Chitra} You can also send your valuable feedback and suggestions to us to my manager, as that will help us to improve a lot. You can find my manager's email id in my email.
{Reo} I see...alright. Thank you.
The customer has ended the chat session.
{Chitra} Once again, thank you for choosing Microsoft and giving us an opportunity to assist you! It's been a great pleasure working with you.
Total chat time about 2 hours. There is a flaw in this session in that I was referring to the product key when I meant the CD key. I was unaware they were different at the time.

Microsoft did not send me a transcript of this conversation, but I assure you I delivered ownage. Notice how that ask the same questions...I threw this guy a curve and answered all the questions at once. Sure, its not very mature, but it gets things done faster.
I asked him about the BSODs I'd been getting when trying to boot from the DVD Vista 64bit disc. After 4 HOURS! 4 freakin HOURS! He said to contact the trained 64bit vista team...One problem...the vista 64 bit team requires you to have a 64 bit product key. (different from the CD key) The product key you can only get once Vista is installed.
Conundrum...you need the product key to talk to the trained vista 64bit team...but i can't install it to get the key.
I'm now emailing a guy named Tony back and forth, he seems fairly knowledgeable and has the most likely chance of getting things done for me.
The Saga Continues.
