Ok I need to get this off my chest because it annoys me to no end.
Im finding that now a days Japan is just overrated, you will always find a person who always makes graphics of asian people, always listens to asian music, says their from the country itself, worships some J rocker and I frankly find it bloody annoying. And no im not some 'stuck up Amercian' I just hate how you try to be a part of another culture and feel the need to show it off.
Like this one chick on another forum I go on pretended to be Japanese, posted a pic of some Japanese chick and said it was her and all that crap. Another thing I see is people giving themselves Japanese nicknames! Use your own goddamn name, or get it changed.
Now, im perfectly fine with people who study or people who listen to some J Pop/Rock, I myself like Gackt and Miyavi and think their really hot, but some just take it too far. Apparently, gwen stefani copies "Japanese street fasion" Ok WHAT? Does that even EXIST? She just likes dressing to stand out, it aint freakin Japanese!
I dont hate anyone who likes the aspects of the country or music, so dont get that in your head, this is just my opinion.
Anyone else agree?

Also, on the "how many kids are you going to have" thread, people mentioned adopting Japanese kids! You'd go that far? Even if there was another in far worse condition? Now if the Japanese one is in bad shape, sure, I think its great to give them a good loving home, but if their ok, than I disagree.

So do I!!! I mean, seriously, I'm only 12, and everyone else around me who are also my age start calling each names like "Aiyato" and "Heyori". I mean SERIOUSLY! I can see it as one thing to, you know, replace your real name with some internet name, but in your life too? Trust me, I know taking it too far, and those people on the "How many kids" are really close to it.

Also, there are certain people I've met on forums who think just because they're asain, they can start leaving their own unique culture and say, "I love Japan! My ancestors were Japanese!" It's really stupid, as they aren't really Japanese, and feel the need to sprout off S#!t that's not true.

Though my opinion may not make sense, that is how I feel about those "Japanophiles". Horridly short, too.

I agree that some people go a BIT too far on their "OMG Japanese!" obession, but is this thread really necessary? I personally think that Japanophiles aren't worth the time and effort for a good discussion. I hope I didnt offend you there but you seriously need to take a chill pill.

I agree that most people are pushing it a bit, I know a lot of people who are Japanophiles, and then there's a Korean person I know who's the polar opposite. I wonder why.

Adopting Japanese kids, Japanese music, Japanese street fashion (besides, I thought they were copying Americans, no clue why . . .), pretending to be a different ethnicity? Yeah, that's sadly kinda out of the line. Ah yes, now the culture of the Yamato people has spread all over the world, though that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah, I hate people who are American and aren't proud of it- but that's me, the stuck up American. If I was a politician, most people would say that I'm a hardcore isolationist (hehe, Sakoku . . .). But that's besides the point.

Japanese nicknames? Kinda cute I guess, cause one of my friends has one, and she has everybody refer to her as that. Besides that, I'm kinda neutral.

People use japanese nicknames because they will like to realte to that japanese person or anime character. J-pop is okay to listen to it isn't a crime to listen to music from another country. I would personally like to go visit Japan and study the language. I'm an American and I love America but to say that I'm japanese is over my limits. I agree with SaucyNinja, you people shouldn't say that your from a different country. Be proud of where you were born and don't EVER be embarressed to say it. You have to remember that Japan isn't all about anime. It has it's cultures and many different things. If you want to learn them fine it's your desicion but you shouldn't overexaggerate by lying to people about yourself.

Despite the fact that I agree with most of what you said, I would like to correct you on this. She has openly admitted that her fashion reflects the styles seen in Harajuku...do some research on the place and you'll see what I mean.

I also don't see a problem with adopting a child from Japan. What's the matter with wanting to give a child a home? You shouldn't get down on someone because of where they want to adopt from.

Secondly, I really don't see a problem with having an interest in other cultures. Granted, people do take their interests too far, and in the case of what have been deemed "Japanophiles", they often do so without having a true grasp on Japan, but only on what they see in anime and the like.

Actually there is a district in Japan called Harajuku that has girls walk down with some of the most absurd fashion statements (that are actually kinda cool sometimes. They range from gothic brides to angel wings and bloody doctors! ^_^;; )and Gwen Stefani has even said in one of her songs entitled "Harajuko Girls" that she liked that style of fashion. So that statement in it of itself is profoundly uninformed.

I do stuff like that, but I don't claim to be japanese or anything truly extreme. Honestly, dude, calm down. It's not a bad thing to enjoy and participate in aspects of other cultures, actually, doing it in a rational manner is quite healthy, in my opinion. Sure I don't like it when people go crazy about it but I think it's a good outlet to explore other races, religions and cultures. At least they don't choose to shut themselves off to the world and focus only on their own culture; that's almost just as bad as being psycotic about another culture, if not worse.

How exactly is listening to a lot of J-Pop/Rock and making siggies and what-not expressing your love for that particular person and/or their music a bad thing, anyway? I don't see you getting worked up about when people do the same thing with American celebrities. How is that any different?

They take it too far, but I can't say I care. Hearing "kawaii" a thousand times gets irritating after a while, but again, I don't really care. I just dislike how people completely worship Japan. It has it's own faults like any other country, like the your job > your life mentality. You can work 12 hours and only afford a small apartment and some food. No thanks. Also, if you're not from Japan, you're at a great disadvantage. Japan has it's racism issues. There are tons of problems with the nation like any other. I would honestly like to visit there one day, because it is still a cool place, and it is a radical change of culture. Schoolgirl panties vending machine lol.

Japanophile behaviors that piss me off.

-"Japanese animation and manga is superior to American animation and Comic Books (which is bull as most american comics make most Japanese manga look like crap)"

-When people put those little name tags on people. "Hello Deadpool-San. Hi Masali-Kun, Greets Faceless-Sama, Hi Capernicus-Chan". Welcome to a forum where people speak english, and if you live in america, Europe, Australlia, South America, or any country that isn't Japan, stop with the honorary name-tag on crap.

-Japanophiles who know the words Baka, desu, kawaii, sugoi, and a few other words, and they know the Kanji for fire, and they assume that they're an expert on the Japanese laungue and writing because of it.

-People who think All music is inferior to non-Japanese music. Music is music.

-People who think Inuyasha has a deep, well-developed storyline with amazing character progression.

-People who flip out and cry when you call Anime "Cartoons"

-People who think they're DDR masters just because they like Japan.

-People who assume Japanese people are always smarter than everyone else (Except for them, because they're so intune with Japanese living that they themselves are just lik the Japanese)

-People who think Japan is the promise land, and if you move there your life will be happy because you're with people who understand you.

-People who think they're Samurai because they have a Katana just like Kenshin.

I can keep going on and on, but you get the idea.
To any and all Japanophiles on this forum. Japan is a country, not heaven. It's fine to repect the country and the culture, but learn the actual culture first. Anime, Pop stars, videogames, and bright lights are NOT major staples of Japanese culture, stop acting like they are. Japan would still function without any of those things.

Ah ha I find those types of people amusing, probally half if not more of the western anime community are those types, so in itself anime is the main root for this.

But you can often tell the differences in those types, for instance with the music part you will find they listen to Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, and that is as far as their Japanese music knowledge stretches (sure there are more I havn't listed) same thing applies to anime. What does get to me are those people that use Japanese words in English sentances "OMG that is so kawaii" or "you are so baka"

I like what Japan has to offer, I watch anime, listen to their music even but I wouldn't want to be Japanese, honestly that country is the most perverted country on this planet.
