when I cast shadows into space
will they come back in the visage of your face
or just in the fleeting dreams of my tomorrow
or maybe just a shade of my desire
growing quickly across a wire
filled with a void of sweetly smiling sorrow
.
I could never say your name
Nor could I cast you blame
When I write it onto angel’s wing
I was given no dreams
But now I have one it seems
I just want to wrap you all up in string
That will tangle you with silk
And here is your saucer of milk
I will keep it till it spoils without you
And I can toss my dimes out
Across this electric spider’s house
And write oceans in the verge of the true
Passing notes in the school room
I watch the pieces of you zoom
Around my ears through my mouth
And when I catch them I will make
A collage for solitary sake
And keep my thoughts from heading south
Into a jungle where I don’t want them to go
As I fill your house with snow
All glowing and silver and gray
While I am watching this rose bloom
Like a wedding perfume
As you walk in, in order to say
That we have nothing to build
As our separate rooms are filled
With a water that tastes just like wine
And I’ll walk you through a city
Where songs that are free
From lips cascade into us and are mine
And we’ll be happy as we sigh
Old in heart without an eye
To see the darkness that would drown
Anybody who would care enough to see
But it will not hurt we
Who do not swim in the sound
Scraping from a piano
Filled with fire yes I know
Its in your heart and in the soul
Of the man who died
Crying lonely in the sky
But we will be safe in our hole
Don’t tell me whether you hear
I know you have cotton-filled ears
But its okay I don’t want to be heard
I am only breaking the jar
Because I already wrecked my car
I am only speaking in freezing words
That the angel who stepped on a landmine
Would have done well to find
Now he’s got no legs but a bruise
Too bad he holds the torch
To the world outside my porch
And illuminates the paths I can use
To guide me over the sea
Where you dwell ‘neath the trees
That tremble with their love for you
As you halo shines above
The dress I bought you like a dove
Beckoning the reticent me to do
All the things I know I should
To break down this wall of iron wood
Which screams as I hew and I shreak
Wailing like a banshee released
From the master who held its leash
I hope I don’t come off a freak
Oh well if I am abused
The wounds can be tended and fused
With gossamer cloth that you keep
Deep in your angel-bone pocket
On your breast in you silver locket
Where I will lay my tired head down to weep
As the moon dances around
Like a gem on the ground
Which I will pocket along with you pen
Which you gave to me over a rampart
Which will keep us greatly apart
Until I can return it to your hand again.
