China banning cartoons and other media not made in china.

Yes. I think people have heard of this happening. China has recently banned all cartoons and television thathas not been made in china. This is because china would like to encourage their citizens will be more creative to make media. Now what do you think about this. What if you lived in china and how would you react to this?

They are only banned for certain times during the day but it is a stupid idea nonetheless.

Well I wouldn't be too happy. I hear anime is pretty big in China (in most of Asia in fact). I get their motives, but it just seems wrong to me. Their economy will take a hit I'm sure.

Although they do have good intentions, it really isn't that good of an idea. I am sure there will be some backlash or something over this. Though it is only during a certain time of the day, the people will probably not like the idea.

The question is. How different is this to say, Canada? Where X% of content on public television must be Canadian made.

You also have to remember that China is notorious for controlling what content reaches its citizens. Google China, if I remember correctly, is filtered, and the use of certain search words is flagged by the government. Frankly, this is not surprising, considering that a lot of the more political anime espouse views that the Chinese government does not like.

Yeah that is true. Communism, what yah going to do? I head that if you are in china and that if you typed tiananmen Sqaure, nothing comes up at all.

Their motive is very idealistic and I guess I can find a few discrimination to the open world.

China justs wants its people to be more for its people. They want there people to do their thing there way without being motivated by another country. china is into itself and would love to grow by itself. I think that it is very ingenious for a country to try yet also very reckless

Okay, so yes I do understand trying to make China more for it's people, but (and let me just say this, bad rep me if you wish) China kinda sucks. I mean, with that law about how many kids you are allowed to have, and the different Chinese dialects, and whatnot. Granted they are very good at keeping their imports low and exports high, I think this is more like an attempt to get their imports even lower. But if they can produce some good work, hell I'll buy it.

You know whats funny? I just got done watching the Red Violin in my communication through film class, and there was a scene in (past) China were thye were burning anything that wasnt chinese. They were talking about how European music was pointless and stupid, blah blah blah. So it kinda doesnt surprise me that they'd pull a stunt like this too

Having lived there for a short while I'd say the banning is not the best way to encourage nationalism in the media, but it's a step. Heck, of any two groups I think the Japanese and Chinese are the most racist against eachother. Especially given their history."
