What do you think about hunting for animal skins?

Ok, I'm mad... For all of those animal lovers out there please comment this! I want to know what you think!

I read on a paper today that the Iberian Lynx is the most rare feline there is at the moment. There are about 150 individuals of that specimen!

Well, of course that one and probably the main reason that this specimen (and many others) are in risk of being wiped out of the face of the Earth is the hunting for animal's skin! It totally disgusts me to know there are people who kill animals for their skin and it disgusts me even more to know there are people who buy the jackets and purses made out of their skins! It's irracional!

I just hope you people think the same way about this subject 'cause it really is pitiful!

If you do it fairly, I'm okay with it. By fairly I mean not sitting in a helicopter with a sniper rifle and heat-vision and blowing their brains out without giving them a snowballs chance in hell of putting up a fight.

Farming for animals for skin however, that's something I have a hard time with.

I can understand hunting in certain circumstances and under fair conditions however people should back off if they're near extinction. Endangered species should be protected from hunters.

As far as hunting for the skins, yeah that's pretty low. At least eat the meat! >_<

i think its ok as long as the other parts of the animal are being used...like for food and for tools, but if u waste the animal to only use its fur then its wrong

I'd say that if there are only 150 specimens left for proliferation of the species, I'd worry about inbreeding within a few generations. I wouldn't have such a good outlook on their survival if you can reasonably expect physical deformities and mental deterioration as a result of animals mating with their kin.

Personally, I am not bothered by it, though I would never do it myself unless I was trapped in Alaska in the deep of winter and needed warmer clothing.

I think it is okay. In moderation it is fine. But i don't like how it is mass killing for companies. I like the thought if you need it get it yourself not let someone else do it because you are more compelled to use it, because you had the power to take away a animals life for it's hide or meat, so it's more precious instead of like going to vons and picking up a pund of meat or going to a fur shop and getting a coat. Yeah a formed this opinion by being in alaska for a year.

skining just for skining is rong. but if someone takes the skine off of something that was hunted for some form of food or off of cows that are sent to be killed for the meat then thats ok by me but hunting something JUST for the pelt should have a bigger penalty than what it is like 30 to 40 years in prison.

Or it would be of some other use to us that we wouldn't just kill it for it's skin and skin only. Such as something in the animal's genetic make-up that would allow to help cure some disease that we suffer.

And I have no problem wearing animal skin. My leather coats keep me very warm in the winter months.

Right, like animals could ever get so corrupted and perverted like humans If people say its okay to extinct a species, then, its okay too in the same way if nutbags blow themselves up and take others with them, because those killed humans obviously were too dumb to get away. If people were smart enough they wouldnt have been killed by Hitlers, Maos, Stalins, Saddams or the bin Ladens. Survival of the fittest eh? Whoever dies of murder, by your logic, deserved it for being too retarded. And the murderer is a big help for keeping the genetical pool clean and fit. Bravo.

Exaclty. Most of these animals are not domesticated, and belong in the wilds, not a cage barely big enough for them to turn around in.

As long as the hunting isn't excessive, and it's done in a fair fashion, I'm pretty much okay with it. You don't even need to use all parts, heck my CAT hunts birds and other small animals for fun. He plays around with them, kills them and leaves them to rot in the garden.

Look, let me ask you this, when an animal is killed by, oh say another animal or person, what happened? It got out smarted, end of story. But when one person is killed by another person, what happened? A crime, end of story. Because last I checked no animal has ever performed brain surgeory have they? Look, the fact that people kill each other is a damn shame, and the reasons behind it are many. But it doesn't change the fact that people are a bit higher up on the food chain than animals.

I'll ask you the same question I ask all people that have such strong views about how animals "should" be treated. There's a burning building, and inside there's a human baby and a puppy dog, both on the 2nd floor but on sperate ends of it. You only have time to save one or the other, this is a situation with no other options. Which do you save?

I would save the baby, but please... don't compare it to an unecessary hunting for wild animals... They live on our planet longer than we do.

Let's think for a minute .. Let's imagine a world where there would be nothing else but human beings... There would be no protected forests or anything and in the end... some years later there would be no forests at all.. a grey world...Maybe it doesn't seem like it but it does change people's ways of being.

But, let me add this thought of mine... We people can be more irracional than the other animals ... 'cause we are aware of our deeds and have what we call intelligence and the power to chose between right and wrong because we KNOW what that is, but even knowing that, we keep killing each other for useless excuses...

When an animal is near extiction, like this one is, I don't agree with hunting it at all. Animals, such as deer, that have such a huge population, that it doesn't matter if we kill some off each year.

But when there are only 150 left... They need protection.

About hunting: Hunting for sport is stupid; I don't think you should purposely kill a deer or any animal unless you intend to eat the meat. Unless it was attacking you, or something. :P But anyways, my family doesn't hunt unless we're starving. We'll go fishing sometimes, but even that is very rare.
