Default Is it better to live in the USA or Canada?

Hi! Just wondering if it's best to live in Canada or the US...that's all!

He stands there, then walks away. MY God, if I could only say, "I'm holding every breath for you."

Well, living in Canada, I'm going to say Canada. I've heard a lot of bad things that happen in the US. I've never been there enough to see if it was true though.
If you can read this, I have taught you how to read small and hard to see fonts. Congrats. Now give me my paycheck.

Fear this empty space which is my siggie!

Never lived in Canada, and never really gave much thought to it either.

I like living in the US though, it's pretty comfortable. I'm also pretty sure that no matter who you are there's a spot in the USA you'll feel right at home in. Diversity causes friction, but I think it really makes this an interesting place to live.

Usa. We have all the pride and that Jazz. I mean sure canada is all peacefull. Were fighting wars for the rest of the worldd. By the way were only doing that because we signed a treaty with the allied countries after the war. They werent allowed to have a big army but we would be like world police.

You'll find crime anywhere you go. Canada has lots of people, and crime does happen, gun control or not.

Working with 3 people who lived in Canada for 15+ years, they all say the opportunity is far better in the States, that it was much easier for them to support their families here. I strongly believe in the importance of that.
Politically, both countries have their issues, and I don't think that one is better than the other..
Then there's the health care provided in Canada.. A nice benefit.. Gun control does seem to work for them.. There's a lot going for them.

Honestly, I don't think there's any huge advantage one way or another. But I'll find out for myself soon enough, since I'm moving to Canada in 6 months..

I really wouldn't know; I've only lived in the U.S. Heck, I've never even been to Canada.

I really would like to go though; once I move to Canada and live there for a few years, I'll come back with a straight answer. ^^

Alright this question is kinda pointless considering the fact that it is all dependant on the persons perspective. I live in america and have been to canada. I honesatly could care less.

As I have never been to Canada, I cannot really say if it is better than the U.S.A. I have lived in the United States (Virginia) all of my life, so I have only my experiences here to refer to. People from other countries like to beat up on us because of the War On Terror and our ways of life, but I happen to really like it here. Sure, I'm not exactly rolling in money, and media here is so obviously bias, but all in all, I'm confortable.

I say Canada because they have free health insurance. I rather have that then free education that we end up paying for in taxes. I've never been to canada but it can't be much worse than the US.

I am surprised that this hasn't degenerated into a "my country can beat your country" thread like so many others between the US and Canada have.

Now, before I give my answer:

The USA has more opportunity, being a purely Capitalist nation. If you want the huge dollars and want to be rich - and want to take the big risks to get there, the US is at the advantage.

Canada has more of a safety net. You can take risks and not have to worry so much about the consequences of failure. This is because of our socialized support systems. It is good and bad .. mostly bad. Some people take risks and it does not work out for them and they need this net. Others - most, abuse it. This is why socialism does not work, people. The people on Canadian welfare and social programs are generally slime who do nothing but feel as if they are owed everything. It is a drain on our society. In the US, it is simple - you go homeless and are screwed. In the Canada, at least the few honest people have a better chance at standing back up.

Our health care is great - but not as great as you think. Think we have free health care? Think again. There is a reason we are so highly taxed. Yes, behind the scenes, we are all paying for it. And like anything socialist, our healthcare is poorly run, mismanaged and slow and sluggish. That being said though, it is nice to be able to get basically any surgery I need done for "free" and leave the hospital without directly paying a cent. Waiting lists are a pain, but here in Canada - you WILL get treated, even if you have no money. I still think we should just copy France's healthcare system - it being pretty much the best ever, but that would make sense.

The US has insanely higher crime than Canada. Yes crime is everywhere. When compared between the US and here it is like night and day. The atmosphere is different here, the people different - smarter and less ignorant/naive, the people far more polite on average. The US has more of a "you're on your own" type attitude. Canada is overall pretty good when it comes to atmosphere and crime, Canada is definately at the advantage there.

Politics. I hate Canadian politics, but I hate American even more. I look at the American nation on a whole as a bunch of sheep. If this offends you, too bad, because anybody with a manipulative, leadership or political sense of mind can sense it too. Just look at the tactics Bush used to win twice. Look at the civil liberties slowly vanishing. The American nation is shallow, ignorant and swallows almost anything that's spoon fed to them.

Canadian politics is somewhat different. The Canadian nation is virtually lobotomized - almost unable to think without our red Liberal masters telling us what to think. Canadian PM's got away with so much under Liberal rule (Torie too though) that it is sickening. Absolutely sickening. They did all of that because simply, the Canadian people didn't care. Canada people, is more of a communist nation with freedom of speech/expression/thought/etc than a true democracy. They did so much behind the scenes and basically didn't give a damn about us. Fortunately this is changing .. Harper is our new PM and his Conservative party is doing amazing - God forbid he's making legislation to make out Gov't more accountable.

In the end, I prefer Canada. Not because of the Liberal brainwashing over the last 20 years getting us to hate the Americans to deflect our view from their dictatorship BS, but mostly for the reasons I mentioned above about America.

Before it gets taken too much to heart, make sure to notice a few things.

This isn't America.. This is people as a whole. You will see this happen everywhere that you have large amounts of people. You have your share of followers and your share of leaders, with intelligence intermixed between both groups. You notice the idiot leaders that take charge, and lead people into idiocy just as often as you notice the evil manipulative leaders that take charge to lead people into profiting them. You see this happen in the U.S., in Canada, in Europe, in Asia, wherever. It's something you can't get away from.

Now remember, the more technologically advanced humanity gets, the less simple life becomes. With advancements, you have experts in medicine, finance, computers, politics, cars, psychology, law, whatever. But you will never find someone who is an expert in all these things. And it's very rare to find someone willing to put forth the time necessary to be learned in all of them, and an expert of none. So what do people do? They rely on the experts, or the people who appear to be experts. If the experts are lying or are incorrect, false information is passed around, and now everyone looks like an idiot. And this happens everywhere.

In my opinion, the biggest downfall I'm seeing in America is our reliance on the media, and the media's tendency to coat the facts with editorials, opinions, and just plain unnecessary excitement. Example? There was a story about how the PSP console is a dangerous toy to give your kids because a kid was using it to browse pornographic sites on his school's wifi Internet. People flew up in a rage because kids were using Sony's gaming device to "pull pornography out of thin air."

I like my country a lot. It's not perfect, and there are a lot of problems all over. But I'm not losing my right to live the way I want to live, I'm not losing my ability to learn what I want to learn, and I'm not losing my ability to earn enough to support myself and a family. I feel safe and secure here. To me, that's really most important. I'm sure it's not exclusive to America to feel safe and secure, but so far it's the only country I've lived in.

i dont like "my country could beat your country" things either but if it was USA vs canada theres nothing to say about military conflict between the 2 countries the highest reason there is no way the 2 countries would ever go to war over, the next is if there was a military confrontation the USA would eraticate canada, canada's military simply can not compare with the USA's military power so there is no reason to compare the 2 countries militarily anyway,i respect canada and the canadian military but if anyone thinks canada can compare with American military power they must be dis connected from reality

From what I can tell, Canada. Appears to be fewer religious nutters over there.

Totally Canada. Tonight, we have fireworks on the riverfront. Across from us is the U.S.A. A lot of the Americans come over here because, there are stray bullets gping off every where! Come down to the river front to see some nice fireworks might get you killed! Just last year five people were killed! CANADA!

America. Because, when I went into an A&W, you didn't have any damn root-beer floats. Just root-beer shakes. Sure, it was fine and all, but really, What the Hell??? If I go to an A&W, I want a Coney Dog and a Float. Not no damn sissified "Root-Beer Shake."

One thing Canada has going for it is females in the Boy Scouts. Almost all of my troop save me (I was tired) went out at night to meet up with some at some Can-Am Scout thing. They got chased and/or escorted back to camp by security too.
Ehhh, I dunno if I'll stick around. We'll see.

I understand that Moderators get allowances for breaking rules, but I have to speak up, because if I don't, well, maybe no one ever voiced the complaint. Please don't hate me, High Tier of Authority.

Normally, I would overlook the use of profanity as a slip, an accident, in a post, and go on reading as if nothing ever happened. But when I see three arguably profane words used in the same, short paragraph, I can't see where it could possibly be an accident.

Profanity does not offend my sensibilities. Growing up, it was all around me. It was an acceptable part of speech, a means of emphasis. That said, I've always appreciated the rule on this site that expressly forbids profanity of even the most innocuous kind (i.e. "hell") because the rule encourages people to convey what they mean instead of letting the profanity say how they feel.

Furthermore, in this case the words were used not to emphasize a valid point in the argument proposed by the thread in which it was posted, but to make a humorous anecdote (and indeed, it was humorous; I give it that). Would it not have been just as humorous with the profanity ommited? Do they really even serve to emphasize anything?

This will be the first time I've ever given bad reps to anyone.

It's all about personal preference. I for one choose Canada, because I live there and I love how cold the winters are, and because Canada is much more peaceful. But when there are fights we don't use guns nearly as much as America. It's mostly fist fights, if we are lucky we use other weapons.
