    Default 65% of Americans Overweight

I watched a thing on TV yesterday about obesity in the US, focussing on a couple of guys who were extremely obese who decided to walk across America to get a change of lifestyle and lose their weight.

One of the specialists on the report said that since it's really hard to reverse obesity and lose the weight, that the best step might be to write off this generation and start to focus on preventing obesity developing in the first place. This goes along with something else I saw recently where if the waist measurement is 35 inches or more, the metabolism start to change. Some sort of bad fat start to build up on the vital organs and slows them down, in turn slowing down the metabolism, and making weight loss harder.

They even had a woman on who was very overweight and doesn't see it as a health problem to be overweight. She also works as a personal trainer.

With 65% of the population overweight or obese, will that start to change the perceptions of the body image in the US, and then across the world? Will being overweight/obese stop being seen as unhealthy?

Given most research indicates that overweight and obesity does lead to more health problems, what's this going to mean for health care etc in the future?

Well I know many overweight people and it is true that it is hard to lose that weight. I don't believe that being overweight is ever going to be seen as healthy. The fat that builds up on your insides will eventually killl that person. So in turn fat only begets death. As for myself I have one hell of a metabolism and I plan to stay that way. I like my body and wouldn't change it for the world. I would gain some weight but I am afraid that If I gained any I would just keep gaining and become extremely fat like many of the people I know. So I continue to eat a lot to keep my metablosim up and make myself stay fit. I am also thinking about working out again just to give my metabolism that little boost yet again. Fat is never a good thing for the body when it comes in extremely large packages. (no pun intended) XD

The Body Mass Index info they base that on is flawed. I mean, according to it, Russell Crowe is obese. Russel Crow is not freaking obese. See: This.

It's based on the assumption that people have neglectible muscle mass. If have a significant ammount of muscles, it's a "DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE!"-situation.

Yeah, we're all fat. I say to each his own. If you want to eat unhealthy and die of a heart-attack, by all means.

If you prefer a healthy lifestyle, and want to live longer, cool too. Either way, it's not hurting me how you live. O_o' Sure, it may change the food industry, but I can careless.

Hm... overweight-ness and obesity does cause problems. Like for young people it give them low self-esteem for instance... And the problems don't stop just there.

Yeah. So, read by a different person, it means 65% of Americans have ripped abs. Obviously false, but there's no way to tell with just the BMI. The BMI is just vague, and often misleading.

98.4 percent of all statistics are false or made up.

Anyway, I grew up eating fast food. My mom stopped cooking a long long long time ago, and rarely do we have a home cooked meal now.

And I have never been over weight. In the opinion of many I am always underweight. I'm not sure how much I am now, but a few months back, I was like 108, and that was the most I ever weighed ever. And I'm 5 foot eleven.

It's genetic, everyone I know whom is overweight, thier parents are over weight, and so is the rest of thier family. When they try to get thin, they just get really really sick and it's unhealthy.

I personally dont think it's a problem. Yes, if you're like SEVERELY overweight, that's bad. But if you're just overweight it's not a problem. After the great depression it was considered sexy to be overweight. It showed that you were from a good home and ate well.

Now it's better that you be a skelliton, and that's not good either.

Not just fast food carbinated beverages and energy drinks, ever since I stopped drinking them, I lost 25 lbs, i'm not what is considered normal, but it's a start and I should be there soon. Best advice stay away from them they are very addicive.

I agree but society is teaching us different. I don't know many poeple who don't like the skelliton look. I'm just talikng about people I've met though. I mean when are we going to find some "look" that is healthy for everyone? Plus there is also the fact that everyone is built differently. Not everybody is the same.

I personally am a fitness freak, I never want to be fat my whole family is and I'm not gonna be lol. I lift light weights, run in the morning or night, I'm up to doing 200 sit ups and crunches a day. Swim when I can, and I eat very healthy.

Yeah well you just met one. The skeleton, twiggy look sported by countless hippies and mirrored by these abominations referred to as "metrosexuals" ought to be tied to tarps and used as kites during a lightning storm.

Well, I've never been in excellent shape, even when I was a skinny little runt, but that is my fault. I'm the one who stuffed fast food burgers and fries down my mouth for 16 years; not McDonald's or whoever else these fat, lazy bums are blaming everything on now. However, I'm also the one who stopped it. I barely even eat out anymore, I exercise daily, and I eat healthier stuff (well, I try). I get so sick of all these frivalous lawsuits against fast food franchises and snack companies; soon enough, there will be a ton of government regulations on what foods we can eat, thanks to people who are to lazy and ignorant to put down the happy meal and order a salad every once in a while.
