You have lured me here... I shall read it all, then leave the thread forgetting everything I have just read.
Good day to you all my fellow forum members, mods - ta ta
EDIT - LOL some people really do have no sense of humour.
ok i have one rule
Q: i don't agree with the rules, can i bother the admins about it?
A: no you can't this is annoying and screws up their jobs, do not bug admins and mods about whether you agree with the rules or not, keep your opinion to yourself.
ok i know i'm not allowed to add rules because i'm not a mod or admin, but i feel this should have been up there, it should be the golden rule :/

Hey great idea there Stal- I mean manslayer. Without some form of dissent or feedback to the mods/admins regarding the rules, no growth will ever take place here, and AF will be cemented forever as an autocracy.
of course you know i was being sarcastic right? -_-'Originally Posted by Sagat

Actually, I like it when I get member feedback... So, I really hope you were being sarcastic and didn't just say that to impress Sagat.

Nah, there really is no finer implement of interweb comunication. Back when Al Gore invented the internets, he added the "s" (for sarcasm) to indicate that it was supposed to be the default mode of communication.Originally Posted by Manhattan_Project_2000

LOL I keep getting caught with this topic. I see it and just click right on it, and I've been around long enough to know more than just the basic rules. But from past experience, is it possible to post the specifics of some rules? I know there are some excemptions, like for a mod and stuff. I would hate to see some new member make the mistake I did by mentioning the double post thing when a Mod did it, then get WARNED like I did. It was not fun being called names by a mod just because I asked if there was an unknown excemption to the rules concerning Mods and Admin.
Most mods can't double post. (With the exception of in thier own forums, I imagine, as I've been seen bumping rule threads/reminder posts/contest threads and etc.)
I'm pretty sure if I double posted in miscellaneous, I'd get in trouble just like any other user would.
In this forum the mods follow the same rules as the members do. If you can't swear, then we can't. If you can't double post then we can't.
We do not make ourselves better than other members here, because we bear the Mod title. You can't be a effective mod, if you break the rules you enforce.
What rules need explained better? Most rules are just common sense. And I can't see that a mod that belonged to this forum called you a name. Apparently I missed something. If it was in another forum then it shouldn't even be mentioned in this forum. If it was a issue it should stay between you, the mod and a Admin if you felt it needed something more to happen.

Okay, I've searched and I've searched and I've searched, suficed to say I've searched, Searched for any mention of not creating threads asking for the advice of others in the Misc forum. And I've come up with zilch. Now I know we all have jounals/blogs. But not everyone uses it, and even if they did the people who would have the right advice from their own experiences have a low probablity of actualy going in and looking at people's blogs to see who needs help. Please, that's just tedious. Anyhow since there's no rule saying they can't post those, at least that I can find, then why close them?
What I find even more confounding is that those I have found closed have had the potential to bring advice to it that not only could the thread's creator use, but many other people could find benifit from. Yeah I understand this is a forum about anime and music, but it's also a place where friends and aquaintances hangout and I've always thought that regardless of the forum, that friends and aquaintances help each other out. And don't try and quote "different ages" to me. Part of life is those with experience imparting their knowledge to those without, i.e. the older teaching and guiding the younger.
Maybe I'm just being an idealistic fool with this, but perhaps there should be a subforum just for that. Of course, the issue with that is when a real psycological issue comes up and the person need to be told they need professional help. Though on the other side of that, I can't think of anyone that doesn't need help especially on an anime board. But in all seriousness, a sub-sub-forum for some advice might not be a bad idea. Of course there would have to be some strict rules and a close watch kept to make sure that things don't get out of hand. Though as a veteran of an advice thread, most stuff is easy to deal with and things rarely got out of hand. Though I did hate telling people that they needed to see someone with more experience. And I'm going to stop rambling now.
Not a good thing to have in your post if your asking to have such topics. The younger as you refer to them, do not need to learn such things that some users say here.
Advice threads create issues for various reasons. Not everyone who replies in them are going to be nice. We have a few people here who love to ride the line with being sarcastic and rude. The threads can turn more into drama, than a help thread. The previous ones have turned into flames at times. Then we have users posting stuff asking for help, who do not even have a problem. They are just acting like they do to get sympathy or to just talk so people pity there susposed hard lives, which is sickning when people portray that stuff. . I am familiar with the last one from others here, who over tuime seem to have every issue and problem in life.
We have had these topics in the
past. When we did allow them, we would get flooded with them. So then we tried to allow one thread, for all to use. That didn't even work out.
My appologies if I came off rude. I'm afraid I didn't realize my annoyance over something a friend did had gotten into the post. Again, I appologize.
While I do agree that there are some things children shouldn't know yet, it's also true that sheltering them from the truth of the world does little good. Age is just a number, it has no bearing on emotional and mental maturity. Plus, by being exposed to good advice now, it can help shape their decisions in the future so they may not end up making the same mistakes us older members did.
And I can certainly see your point about flaming. I know when I ran my advice collumn, I had a strict no flaming pollicy, in fact the whole forum did. Since we didn't have points or rep, we had a strike poicy, three and banned. And of course the flame posts were deleted and the people PM'ed they'd earned themselves a strike.
But here a policy of taking away points and rep before banning could be implimented.
1-100 pts 10 rep taken away
2-500 pts 25 rep taken away
3-1000 pts 50 rep taken away
4-5000 pts 100 rep taken away
5- Banned
Of course it would have to be decided if the numbers refer to inidvidual posts or if they refer to days that we find flaming posts.
Exactly our point is demonstrated above with your reply/apology. You can see how easy it is to say something and have it come out incorrectly, or be based upon something that went wrong recently. Help topics also have that problem which esculates into heated opinins, or "your stupid" replies. Or even the classic "you had it coming". "no one can fix it but you". "your looking for pity and attention".
It is not our job to educate younger people. It is up to there parents or guardians on what to shelter them on. We can not out guess them, nor will we try. We try to maintain a user friendly atmosphere. If they pick up bad things here, and there parents find out.. Then there not allowed back. Yes some younger kids do have parents who care, and take a active interest into what they are doing on the internet.
Age does make a difference. That is why there are laws out there to protect young kids. This site has survived very wel without having these types of threads. We provide Journals and Chat and other things that a user can use for this stuff.
Here at AF we already have guidelines the Admins and Mods use. I appriciate your input in this area. But the Admins here have already long ago worked up the best rules and ways of enforcing them that work perfectly for this site, from expereince over the years. The webmasters here have years of expereriience, with a extremely high succes rate. I trust there rules and how they want them enforced.
Uh, yeah, are topics with like, medical or health issues allowed on here?
What is this feeling of hopelessness, of sorrow and grief and yearning? I call it, without you.
It depends on the topic. If it's personal in nature, no. Those topics belong in your journal. If you want to discuss the latest medical crises, feel free.
What does questions covering a certain medical issue one has belong to? Journal also?
What is this feeling of hopelessness, of sorrow and grief and yearning? I call it, without you.

Oooh you tricked me!..-_-.. Oh well ^.^ This is really good for new people who come here. Thank you for posting.
And regarding the medical thing, I feel really iffy about 'advice' threads on medical / health topics, be it physical or mental health. An anime forum is no substitute for a trained professional, and there isn't much advice that can be imparted on a person when your total knowledge of their condition comes from them, and through a forum at that.
Self-diagnosis can be dangerous, and soliciting advice from people via an anime forum on issues relating to ones medical condition is something that is best to avoid. Especially seeing as we run an anime forum, and not a medical support community. If you have an actual medical issue, see a health professional. If you don't like what they tell you, consider seeing another one. Internet forums do not count as a second opinion O_o;
The other main problem with advice threads is that all too often the person who started it gets offended at the lack of useful advice/the insulting tone in which advice is being given/the implications behind the given advice, so all in all, these threads seem to very rarely work well anyway. Its only the rarer threads that have implications to more people then just the initial poster that survive.
