Firefox VS Internet Explorer

Pop-ups aren't a problem on my computer. Norton Internet Security is so studly, not only do I rarely see a pop-up, but It even goes so far as to block out the advertising on the top of the windows here.

Although I have to turn it off if I want to view comicgen comics. e_e

I use IE, simply because I'm too lazy to bother with Firefox. I don't like change sometimes, anyway.

Firefox. It's currently more secure than Internet Explorer, supports current web standards, and is open source. Plus I find it a lot more tidy then IE.

Firefox is still pretty underground, so the virus programmers don't always notice it, while IE is the most used and well-known browser for the Internet ~ open-season for adware and viruses.

I haven't had any trouble with Norton, I don't see how it sucks. As I said before, I've gotten attacked by viruses, while using IE. I go to those same sites on FF, and it doesn't happen nearly as often. I don't have IE 7, yet, so maybe that's the problem.

I know that FF is popular, but its not nearly as well-known as IE. IE is much more mainstream.

Edit: Also, if you are having trouble with FireFox, here are a few reasons is could be.
1. You have dial up. Sorry to say, but it does work better with high speed, unless you have an ISDN dial up modem.
2. Your computer is dated. Even comupters from 2000 have trouble using FF if they weren't taken care of well. Plus, FF uses more ram, but the result is a better web browsing experience if your computer can handle it. My old computer had some trouble using it, but once I got this puppy I have now, the first thing I did was go download FireFox.

I've been hearing that Opera is just as good as (or better than) Firefox, though. I don't know what to think of it, though (or Safari), since I don't use it. My computer is old-school to a fault, so I use Mozilla Suite.

Speaking of other browsers. If you run Internet Explorer and you don't like Firefox for some reason, you should ditch IE anyway and get Avant. It's a modified version of IE or something that makes it faster and more secure, while also less likely to run into compatibility problems.

Also, anyone having a problem with the Firefox "memory leak" problem should look into this.

In most cases i prefer Firefox but it messes with a bunch of scripts so I kinda like IE. Firefox is also a little overprotective in some ways but overall I still prefer it.

You were the guy who got me into Firefox; I didn't even know what the heck it was until you said something about it. I haven't tried Opera, but I will download it, if I can. I've never heard of this Avant thing, so I guess I'll try that, too. It sounds cool. I guess I'll try out IE 7, Opera, Safari, Avant, and the latest FF browser update, together, and do a complete comparison.

I still love Firefox, btw. IE...is so inferior at times, its almost sad.

I have the same problem with an Abandonware site. Easy way to fix it without leaving yourself open. It's caused by a type of cookie that makes sure it isn't hotlinked.

From Norton Internet Security: Privacy Control -> Configure -> Advanced -> (Scan the list on the left to see if he site is listed, if not click add site and enter the info) The name of the site in question. Then on the options on the right, select Permit in the "Information about visited sites" thing. Ta-da. No more crippling your security.

Personally I like Internet Explorer better. Simiply because I've been using it longer and I know some ways around things I don't want. True FireFox is better. But I find it a bit harder to get use to. Not that my opinion matters much. But oh well.

He's actually right in some way... Replace virus programmers with hackers and you've got something pretty much correct. Hackers are used to IE and alot know everything about it. Easy to hack. Easier for you to get adware, a virus or a trojan. This is mainly because Firefox is still new, but also because they actually update you whereas Internet Explorer hasn't really given a sh** about protecting thier users from viruses and such ever since they won the browser wars... Until lately of course. And even now IE won't really do anything for you in terms of protecting your computer unless you have XPw/SP2.

Anyway... As you can see I'm for Firefox. Tabs are great and having your fav. links at the top is pretty cool too. Need to get used to some stuff but after all that it's all good. Oh and being able to see(or not see) PNG tranparencies is cool as well. 0-100% transparent pictures is awesome.
