Though I must say, though Kirk is pretty good, He can't touch anyone on this list. At all. Ecspecially not Satch, Vai, or Yngwie. He could come close to EVH though, but not when he was in his prime. But, the fastest guitarist I've ever heard has to be either Rusty Cooley or Micheal Angelo Batio. Both of them are insane. Another fast one is Jason Becker. No offense, but this list is pretty lacking. Where are all the guitar heros? Petrucci, Jason Becker, Micheal Angelo Batio, Rusty Cooley, and of Course Marty Friedman! C'mon, man, get with the shredding program.
All The Ways You Wish Could Be? That's me
hmm...fastest?
well i guess to me its van halen. but you'd have to be wicked skilled to be able to play fast. can you imagine how much it'd hurt? sliding all over the fretboard like that....
Thanks for the sig Xey Oiz ^.^

It's clear to me that you people don't know much about guitar players...
the fastest is totaly Michal Romeo from the band Symphony X.

Stop thinking your better than everyone with your guitar knowledge. Everything in this is opinion, that means it is up to you who is the best from the list, if they arent there dont reply. Just cos you say that others are better doesnt mean you are right, its your opinion.Originally Posted by Masali

Masali is right though, Kirk is good but in speed he can't come close to either Vai, Satriani or especially Malmsteen. Have almost never heard Van Halen so I won't say anything there. And Insolence also have a point, Michael Romeo is incredible when it comes to speed.
But from the list I will pick Malmsteen.
You're obviously not much of a shred fan, and I know much better. Why? Because I have EARS and an open mind with music. Michal Romeo is fast as hell, no doubt about that. But I hate his style. It's so boring, it's just mindless. Now, I can form an opinion much better then you because I've heard everyone off of that list, you obviously don't know **** about good shred metal or else you would be nodding in agreement. You're far from cool because you listen to the file-sharing nazi's metallica. Expand your horizons.Just cos you say that others are better doesnt mean you are right

just because they play fast doesnt mean they play good.
I agree highly with Sadie. A fast guitarist does not mean that they are a good guitarist. It usually means the complete opposite.
And you are all wrong. The people listed above me aren't even in the same dimension as Willie Adler.
500 mille an hour riffs. No one touches him. You need to see him play live. If you watch it on a video you can't see what he's doing because his hands are just a blur.
Willie Adler my friends. Dig it.
No do not try to scream and go crazy on me because I know that you know that I know that you don't know who he even is. Masali, this means you, stay the freak away from my posts.
Jimmy Page and Jimmi Hendrix are the best guitar players ever
There is a part of me
That feels I am different from everyone else.Something that I can't quite see,Something that I can't quite feel,Something so unreal. But this 'thing' is always there,This 'thing' with others, I will never share.

Now now guy's, no arguing over something trivial. I don't think this thread was EVER about who's cool and who's not.
Question was...who's the fastest in ability, who on this list is the fastest WITHOUT select favoritism that is.
Anyone who has properly done their homework on this topic and listened to each guitarist on this list, few in their right mind would contest Yngwie Malmsteen as top of the list when it comes to speed, and as for speed I am ASSUMING "Most notes played in some kind of time frame" correct?
I've listened to all others on this list, now, and technically if your looking for the absolute fastest and your not judging like "he's my fave guitar player, therefore he is faster even though he's not, I just want him to win".
I've been playing guitar 20 years, 21 years this august. I've played rock, metal, classical, speed metal, thrash metal, shred metal and a few other stranger styles.
Now being fair and non abrasive here in the music forum, Kirk is a fast guitar player no doubt, he was taught by Joe Satriani for gods sake! But in comparison to players like Yngwie Malmsteen he is not the fastest on this list, sorry, but it is not fact that Kirk is faster than Yngwie. On this list, big headed Yngwie is hands down the fastest, though you can feel free to say Kirk is, the opinion isn't technically correct, not based on analytical fact, but still an opinion none the less.
Chill the egos guy's, OK?
Respect, Listen, Learn, Share.
BTW how are ya doing these day's Masali?
Rock on!
C'mon ppl, if they aren't on the list don't worry about it. Hendrix etc are kinda off topic though they are good, and the question was...(for those whom forgot the topic subject) it is...WHO IS THE FASTEST. Not who's better and so on. Thank you for reading, much respect to you all!

Sure, I live in the 80's. But the majority of 80's guitar players are more talented than most today, who do you think inspired who you listen to to play guitar in the first place knucklehead?Respect your elders!

Get over yourself, hypocrite. "Ohhh, Masali is being all elite about his guitar music knowlege and telling people not to critisize! k, now I'll do the same thing, but it's ok because I used a witty (only in your mind) comment to retaliate!"No do not try to scream and go crazy on me because I know that you know that I know that you don't know who he even is. Masali, this means you, stay the freak away from my posts.
Good for you!
And on the flip side
"Pfft, you all know nothing. Stop saying you're guys best because you know nothing...
OH AND BTW MR. SO AND SO IS LIEK THE FASTEST SO STHU!!!"
And Willie Alder from Lamb of God? The band that sounds like slipknot just with better musicians. And Willie Adler isn't the most impressive speed wise. And what the hell are you talking about "you can't judge his speed by videos?" Last time I checked, you don't listen with your eyes. There are these things on the side of my head that seem to pick up sound waves that are bounced off the environment, I call them "ears". They're remarkable, really.
Oh, and MOS, Im doing great but I must defend my honor!

Fast guitarist eh?
well Most hardcore guitarist are quite fast (The Black Dahlia Murder, bleeding through etc) but there style lacks originality its just rattle the bottom E as fast as you can and throw in wee twiddley bits.
As for Prog and rock guitarists i cannot stand them personaly there music is boring tho it is talented yes but its all sounds the same and as for speed the only fast and hard song i have heard so far is scarify(sp?) by racer X (thats just insane)
but really if i HAD to pick a talented AND fast guitarist it would be
-the lead from-Children of Bodom Or Norma jean(due to there math metal style i find it very hard just for my brain to keep up with the music)
but i have not heard all the guitarists in the world so i may be wrong

When it comes to sheer number of notes crammed into a period of time, the scholars of shred agree that Yngwee is most definitely the best. And I am loath to disagree with the scholars of shred, since their axes are most mighty, and the riffs most excellent. Now when it comes to favorites, I'll go with my fav pair, Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew of King Crimson, because they know how to work a pair of guitars.
Kirk.. Definitely Kirk....
<font face="Impact"><font size="7"><font color="red">47 PWNS JOO!!!
My bets go on Yngwie Malmsteen...
But man...I have seen Micheal Angelo Batio perform, and the guy is outta his frickin mind. I'll betcha he gets arthritis or carpel tunnel in the next ten years!
Sorry the guy makes me gawk every time I watch that "Speed Lives" video, I think that's what it's called, help me out here Masali, is that the title?
Cannot seem to find a copy of that thing I got it around here somewhere, it's off the cuff man.

Herman Li and Sam Totman are awesome. Have any of you even heard of Dragonforce? Its power metal. Also I agree with insolence. Micheal Romeo should be on this list but Im not surprised that he isnt. Progressive metal is not very well know.
dude, steve vai all the way. he just kicks so much butt
