suggestions/comments on how i can improve it...

Improve the quality of the card images, finish the left most corner of the card, and while an interesting idea a bit on the bland side. You might want to consider spicing up the background a little. Oh, I don't know, replace what you have with a blackjack felt and throw in a few random chips. That'd be pretty sweet IMO.

I very much like it. You might want to enlarge the size of the cards, that might remove a lot of the blank spaces. Good job and good luck.

The background is much too sharp and fine when compared with the relative low quality of the cards. Blur the checkerboard, or make it less even. Maybe even make the squares of the grid a little larger, see how that looks? I like the somewhat uneven nature of the grid around the lower left quadrant.

The colored shadows of the cards are nice, but they're not blended properly with the background; they shouldn't replace the checkerboard with white.

The font is kind of nice, and I like the gradient on the underline.

Terrible terrible artifacts in the white areas to the left and top-left parts of the image.

Something about the composition of this image doesn't feel right to me. Maybe it's that the cards feel a bit too small, they're swimming in too much space?

Aha - one thing that bothers me a little bit, I think, is that the nice mint green background color doesn't exist in any of the cards, so it clashes somewhat. What if you were to use a soft orange instead, or perhaps a nice light blue to complement the blue jacket on the central card's character?

Remove more of the white blank space. Make it look more colorful maybe. I dunno. I'm a beginner at making wallpapers to, so I really have no place to say what you should add. Definately experiment with brushes though! That always helps ^^
