Ok lets say a really good band is in town and you love them. You want to go but your mom says no. She says that they are a bad band because the meaning in the lyricas. Then you tell her there is no meaning behind it. If a song has no meaning behind it is it a bad band?

I can guarantee you that every song has meaning, be it "I do drugs" or "I love you with all my heart". Telling your mom that the lyrics have no meaning is a complete lie.

Now to answer your question, the band would have to be people singing about something they have never experienced

Ex:
A band that does drugs singing about being straight edge.

Ex2:
A band that has never been in love singing about love.

personally, I think that if the band's lyrics have no meaning, they're a s*** band that should just go die and fade out of existance.

Well, I'm not sure if I got you correct. Either you aren't allowed to go see a band because lyrics are bad or are you wondering if it's pointless to have lyrics if they don't mean anything?

First I will answer the second: If the band has lyrics but the lyrics have no meaning I got a hard time understanding why people listen to it. It either has to be instrumental or lyrics with meaning. I really like instrumental music like Vai, Liquid Tension and Malmsteen, but I like music with vocals and good lyrics most. My favorite band is Rammstein, and the lyrics there are very important despite what a lot of people say. I would say the lyrics are worse in the meaning than Eminem and Limp Bizkit that go "f**k this, f**k that" in every song. On the swearing part they are not bad, but the meaning of the lyrics can seem somewhat horrible. Take eksample "Spiel Mit Mir" or "Heirate Mich". Or take Evergrey and their last album "The Inner Circle" that takes up religion and child abuse. But the lyrics has meaning, it sends a message, and that is more than I can say about Blink 182 that is mainly about sex and the use of the word "f**k". So no, I would not say bands like Blink 182 has good lyrics, if you want good lyrics go to Dream Theater, Nevermore, Rammstein, Freak Kitchen or Opeth.

And if it's the first, that you ain't allowed by your mom to see a band because of the lyrics, I would like to know what band that is. If it's Blink or Limp Bizkit and you ain't allowed, I would guess it is because of the extreme use of the word "f**k". If it's a band like Gorgoroth or any other black metal band I would guess it is because they mainly focus their lyrics around satan.
But yes, lyrics needs a meaning. If it don't have a meaning, what do the band want?

There has to be meaning behind the lyrics. If there weren't any, then how could they have written the song? Whether it be about love or anger or a pair of shoes, there has to be a teeny bit of emotion.

But, yeah, the meaning behind alot of songs can be the same. If a band only makes up some cheesy lyrics just because they know it's popular and they'll score big, then it still has a meaning behind it. A stupid meaning, but it's .. yeah.

If a band is only in it for the money, then I consider them to be a bad band. When they just don't care about the music, I mean, what's the point.

Weather a song has actual meaning in it or not, if the music moves you and you enjoy it...what dose it matter what the meaning to it is??
It makes you happy and inspires, you don't need a meaning or reason for it!

and that, my shreding friend, is why I like instrumental rock. Some of the artists I love in the instrumental rock scene (Vai, Yngwie, Some unrealeased RR tracks, Satch). It's something you can't explain...I mean...you can really FEEL the music, it's insane it's like they're touching your soul with what they play. I love it, I get such a rush.
